Exedy Stage 1 Clutch for R150 Manual Trans

LOL, that image specifically says 40% more clamping force from the clutch cover (pressure plate). So, it is an organic (similar/same to OEM) disc with an upgraded pressure plate. That'll be fine - but unless you are doing a power adder isn't necessarily needed.

(I have been daily driving clutches capable of 400+ ft-lbs of torque for ~15 years now on high-strung 4-cylinders... plenty of personal experience here)

You know Charlie, after I posted my comment I re-read that screenshot and I thought to myself, "well, you're definitely wrong" LOL sorry about that!! But i like the other feedback you gave about the lifespan, I chose this clutch because I wanted something heavier duty for the sand dunes, sometimes if you're crawling up a dune it puts a lot of torque strain on everything, i didnt want to deal with any slipping. This particular clutch had visibly more material than any other one and it looks to be twice as much as the aisin picture but this is a lighter color and the aisin is a black clutch material so that could be an optical illusion. however, thankyou for your quality input!! The only thing im doing down the road and its still a maybe would be a supercharger. depending on the life of my engine i may choose to go a different route at that point. However, the number one reason I dont want to swap engines is because of the cluster gauge. I like everything to look OEM. When im done with my truck everything behind the front two seats will be gone and stripped down bare, everything from the back of the front seat on will still have an OEM look and feel. I want to have a longtravel dune truck that i can spray out with a hose if i need too and not really worry about anything.

I originally went with the exeedy clutch and was a bit unimpressed. I pulled it out and put in a marlin, have been really happy with the clutch since then.

was it the overall feel of the clutch in all driving conditions that left you unimpressed, or the performance in specific situations? I appreciate your feedback

My buddy Dan did his research on this topic and ended up buying a Centerforce Stage II Clutch and Pressure Plate:https://amzn.to/31vihZW

He also bought a Centerforce Throwout Bearing:https://amzn.to/33Swods

Here's the videos of us performing the job. All the parts and tools used are linked in the video description.

I didnt know you had a video for this! Much appreciated tim, gives me something enjoyable to watch!

I wheeled on it and it felt "okay" not really the grab i was hoping for. It may just be me justifying the money and time i spent but i liked the feel of the marlin more on road.

I noticed that URD has four different stages of clutches available for the 3rd gen R150F trans, anyone have any experience with these? I found that interesting.

I ended up going with the aisin kit from rock auto and I'm happy with it so far, using a resurfaced oem flywheel, though my experience driving a manual is limited this is only my second manual vehicle

Your old flywheel didn't have any blue spots on it before resurfacing?

I appreciate that feedback! I have decided for my usage and future plans with the truck, im going to go with a high load clutch, as long as driveablility is more or less the same. These URD clutches state that they are modified to keep the clutch feel like stock. If this truly is the case, id just go with their stage 4 clutch. I feel like a lot of sand driving could prove to be very taxing on a stock clutch over time, especially climbing up steep dunes

I had a centerforce clutch in my manual 85' pickup. I hated the pedal feel so much that I pulled the trans and swapped in a Marlin clutch based on pedal feel alone. Call me crazy but when the clutch in my 00' 4Runner starts to go, it will be a Marlin unit going in.

I send you a photo of one that is bad.. :D I am glad yours was good. :-)

me too, since the options are basically to resurface, buy a used oem and have it resurfaced, or a new oem at $400+, I did tons of reading on aftermarket flywheels and it seems like most or all of them have improperly machined ring gears

I just picked up my complete 5 speed swap yesterday. I inspected the flywheel and im not sure about the small stress cracks I found. Ill post a pic today at some point. I also settled on an MPact 6 puck ceramic clutch with 40% more clamping load than stock. Eveyone is saying dont go with a 6 puck, but my main usage for this will be on the dunes, and im not going to skimp on a clutch when Im on a dragstrip running through gears at high rpms in the middle of the hot afternoon in the sand. With all that being said, this clutch is $250 after shipping, this is identical in appearance all the way to the rivets with the stage 4 clutch from URD for over $500. Ill test my luck with the rock auto special.

Fingers crossed that my flywheel can be resurfaced, im not spending 400 on an oem one.. at all..

EDIT: the seller for this clutch is when i actually went to the M-Pact website. "The M-Pact ST2 Upgrade Clutch Kit uses a matched pressure plate with a high-torque heavy duty 6 pad Carbon-Ceramic clutch disc. The ST2 clutch disc is unique and offers unparalleled performance characteristics. By using a ceramic friction pad combined with carbon material the driver notices a smoother engagement than with typical ceramic puck styled discs. The carbon ceramic material also allows for less wear on the opposing surfaces which increases clutch life. For additional strength and reliability the ST2 disc uses a partial closed spring window that provides additional spring support and protection. Our sprung assembly construction helps to dampen torsion vibrations for smooth engagement and operation. The Pro Shift ST2 Clutch Kit Upgrade is designed for moderately modified cars or simply aggressive individuals with stock power. This upgrade kit offers up to 20-40% increase in torque capacity and maintains a stock pedal feel."

highlighted and bold text made me buy this kit. The only kit to claim to work well with people that just wanna drop a clutch on stock power and have it stick LOL

Ah Great. I forgot to get this photo of one for the pile.. Let me see its been sitting for a while an might be rusty. Let me see here. :-)

You can still see the bluing and rivet Mark's. This one also had hairline cracks in this flywheel. So I junked it. I would use a OEM mfg flywheel as I believe they used 2 or 3 mfg . Lux, AISIN.

I pulled it out about a year or 2. It's the bluing cracks and markings the reason for junking. You see hairline cracks or blued definitely junk the flywheel. No worth messing with.

Dang then no need to post a pic LOL. Not much blueing but a ton of little stress cracks, i didnt know if the machining process would take enough material off to make a difference. LUX i was looking at, and it says made in china in big letters, Platinum Driveline components had a really nice looking on on rock auto, i couldnt see where it was made though, probably china.

My friend in Australia has a prado 99 with 5 speed manual. He replaced his clutch with an Exedy clutch kit. Little under 500 miles, he started heating a rattling noise that goes away after pressing the clutch paddle. Probably a bad bearing. Stay with OEM for these crucial parts.
