Exhaust Leak 4 Cylinder

Ok so do the 4 cyl exhaust manifolds crack on these AND/OR could it be the gasket leaking?It's pretty throaty nasty when cold, but warm it's a little better.Would a good sized leak in this area cause a decrease in gas mileage?Thanks

Yes, the exhaust manifold on 96-99 2.7 Runners were prone to cracking, that is one of the only common issues with that motor. The manifold itself was changed to more of a header style in 2000 and that solved the issue, so I would either upgrade to headers or get a 2000+ manifold.

I agree. The manifolds suck. Check your tune up items and valve clearances for your mileage loss

Yes the newer manifold will work on your 97.

A large exhaust leak in the manifold will allow cold air to get to your hot exhaust valves which can cause warped exhaust valves due to thermal shock. I wouldn't drive it much until you fix the leak.
