Exhaust Leak

So I recently noticed the sound of an exhaust leak coming from the passenger side wheel well area. I still have stock manifolds, so is this a common issue? I am not exactly sure if it's coming from the manifold or closer to the downpipe that meets the cat. Just gaskets or worse a crack. Anyone else have this happen and what was your result?

I had an exhaust leak because of the gasket between pipe and cat. Found the telltale carbon at the leak. Replaced cat and everything behind because I also had a failing cat and the muffler had developed its own leaks. It was 17 years old. Those 3 studs were so horrible I almost said bad words. They did not survive my onslaught but they didn't go down willingly by any means.

I heard of a pretty ingenious way to check for an exhaust leak. Get a shop vac and connect the hose to the exhaust port so it's pushing air not sucking. Put the hose into the tail pipe, maybe tape it up or use rags to make a better seal, and this will positively pressurize the exhaust system. Now go around with a spray bottle with a soapy solution and check for leaks.

Man, I have to try this. I think I "may" have a leak. The only codes I have are to do wth exhaust. It does say o2 sensors but those are both brand new Denso units. I have a hunch its when I put in my new cat and maybe a seal didn't seat properly..

Thanks for the tip on how to find the leak. I have a general idea of where it's coming from but I gotta track it down. The parts involved could either be cheap or $$$

What type of replacement cat did you use?

Walker. It was what I could afford.

So today I ripped into the exhaust leak. It's a leak where the collector meets the downpipe to the cat. So I got everything apart and found that there were actually 2 gaskets on each collector opening, so 4 total. They seemed to be stacked. I installed the new gaskets I picked up and buttoned everything back up. Turned the truck on and now my exhaust leak is 2X as bad. For everyone who has had these parts seperated what type of gaskets did you use. I could feel exhaust blowing right by the new ones and out the side.
