Exhaust leak

Got around to climbing under the truck today to see if my exhaust manifold is cracked found it leaking from that first connection. Took it apart and put it back together with a new gasket and some sealant but the flange is so rusted it’s louder than it was before. Not sure what my next step is going to be.

In other news, I was able to put my fender flare back on and a new electric antenna mast, so now at least the music covers up the sound of the exhaust Pic for attention

Is it rusted badly on the cat downpipe, the crossover pipe or the exhaust manifold itself? Junkyard will have the first two but the exhaust is a real pain to get out. If it's the crossover pipe... one has to disconnect the transmission to get to it. I would take it to an exhaust shop to see if they could just weld the two sections together before attempting or paying to have that done, especially if rust is starting to claim the vehicle.

You could try doubling up the exhaust gasket where it’s leaking. I put a stiff wire wheel on my drill and really went to town on the surfaces.

Don’t tighten those stainless acorn nuts too tight. It will gall the threads.

I took another look this morning I think I’m just going to weld it up? Of course the wife says
“ just buy a new truck” does she understand I’m looking at this “ new” 01 limited with 427k right now.
Next up Taco brake upgrade. Post any hot tips here please.

If the leak is at the flange after the CAT FX makes a replacement flange.

This is it. They may have gone out of business.

I’ve had it at least 10 years.

Edit. Sorry for the bad picture. Here it is.

They look like they had a really good idea.

I went ahead and doubled up the gasket and used some high temp RTV quiet as day one.

Next to upgrade my brakes and give the frame another shot of fluid film.
