Just bought '97 T4R 3.4L Limited 2WD 108K miles
Driving around lunch time, I noticed slight exhaust odor in the cabin. Is it a manifold or muffler problem? Any information is appreciated.

Firstly, make sure the rear window is fully up. Exhaust fumes will be drawn in if it is down just a little.
Secondly, its virtually impossible to diagnose the source of the odor over the internet. You'll have to crawl under the car and search for yourself. Actually, better still, dont mess around with something that could be potentially harmfull or fatal and get the vehicle to your local mechanic TOMORROW and get it checked out. Good luck and hope you enjoy your new ride. :)

Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, I did make sure all windows, doors, and hatch are closed. Also checked over the hood, under the car for fume, nothing. This morning, I drove to work with vent closed and didn't notice any exhaust smell. I'll have investigate little more.

Well, figured out the problem.
The back door wasn't shut completely! To close 4runner's door is different than my wife's Acura MDX. I noticed the warning light but it looked so fake, I thought it was painted symbol!
Thanks for your help and hope no one makes the same mistake as I have.
