Sure sounds like a cracked exhaust. Mine sounded the same and it made me hate the thing. I got these headers and its been nothing but love since.

What headers did you go with?
My truck has 255K and developed the exhaust tick about 25K ago. I figure the entire exhaust needs re-doing at this point.
What are guys running in terms of simulators on the O2's if you ditch the cats?

I was between two buildings yesterday and got to hear
My Exhaust. Didn't really notice a tick or anything. Just sounded like I had a 2 cyl engine. Really wimpy. Need to probably check and see if my exhaust had a hole or something. I put it in park and it sounded fine but under load it just sounds really wimpy kind of putting type sound.

I have got the same thing. Seems like Thorley is the only game in town for headers on my rig (2003 V8). I didn't want to spend $700 on this header swap, but I really don't want to swap on a new set of stock manifolds or have it welded up.
Figured that someone, somewhere would make a set of shorties for this thing.

With the exhaust cold! you can put a shop towel into the exhaust and it will make finding leaks pretty easy. But be careful take necessary steps to make sure you don't hurt yourself. (eric the car guy has a video of this)
I know i have a hole in my muffler, dime size. its enough to bother me. I have to find a solution. This thread is going to make me check my exhaust manifold, I hope those aren't leaking cuz this just looks stupid expensive to fix.

Heat makes the metal expand and fills in the crack, so it quiets down. It wont hurt anything but make you nuts when windows are down or driving next to buildings.

I'm guessing that depends on how many of the bolts/studs come out easily.

Well drivers side is bad. Got a quote for $1400 installed. So Much for my front bumper project. 7.2 hours to install I guess. I am currently drinking! They did give me a Prius hybrid to drive though. I miss my 4Runner. I actually took it in yesterday as one of my brake line brackets was dangling. Don't think the shop I had do my lift got it back on right. And I have developed a small squeak coming from the front drivers side someplace. Cannot seem to replicate it though. Only happens at certain times and under certain loads. So basically my day has been shitty!

Ya it's a serious pita to do the manifolds! Header install cost me $1100 I think, then I had them make me a dual exhaust for a total of $1600. Plus the headers cost of $700. So much fun.... But the results are amazing!

Here is what the exhaust shop did for my exhaust. Stock cats retained [MENTION=139551]JoeyJ[/MENTION]
I also have been doing some surface rust clean up/ rust reformer, while it is not perfect it looks better so its a start.
