Exhaust manifold leak/tick

Seems to be more prevalent in the V8s.

To those that went the headers route, did you wind up mounting up a new set of converters or did you just weld them to old ones.

I am wondering how good the O2 sims are. I would prefer to ditch all the O2s because at 260K, I am sure they are a bit clogged. I have only had to put 1 sensor on this car.

Thanks.

the O2 sims, the $150 ones from Doug Thorley? Are you going to go that route? Curious as well.

Dealer in Chicago quote me for $3k, but it seems that I can probably shop around and get better headers (DT) and do it for around $2k.

Headers $750
sensor $150
labor $800-1000
cats?

Well here is my update. After 4 days at the dealer a new drivers side manifold is done!! Yeah!! And then they did a cold start up on it and got a tick for about 30 seconds!! Damn! Damn damn! Last for about 30 seconds I guess. They said by the time they got to the end of the lot it was gone. So they wanted to keep it another night and do a cold start on it in the morning. WTF is going on with it? Any ideas?

Shitty product. That's why everyone is putting the headers in. Cheaper, better quality, better performance.

Here is what the exhaust shop did for my exhaust. Stock cats retained JoeyJ

I also have been doing some surface rust clean up/ rust reformer, while it is not perfect it looks better so its a start.

great pics, so you had a leak in your muffler, not the exhaust manifold?

I got a leak in my muffler, i think between cat and tail pipe.

I want to do something very similar to what you did. what did that cost you?

Really. It's a factory Toyota part. If that is the case I am not paying them again to put it in.
This has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum. The stock manifolds are faulty, they always have been and they have never changed. OmeOem does not mean better. For instance, the calipers have a tendency to seize. Guys are now converting to 5th gen calipers as they changed slightly and don't freeze, and are completely bolt on.

Both my OEM manifolds were also cracked at the flange ( near the head ) I had the extra exhaust work done at the same time as the headers were installed.

The exhaust work ( NOT including the header install ) was $340

Have you noticed any power gains/butt dyno improvement with that dual style exhaust? This is the same setup my muffler shopped wanted to do, just curiuos if its a worthy upgrade to the DT Headers which I had installed a few months back.

I have no point of reference because I did the headers and exhaust at the same time. I know the OEM y pipe is a terrible POS so I am happy with the new set up.

Dude, I gained so much power with the headers and exhaust it's retarded! 0-60 with 35s and old exhaust was 9.5 seconds. After exhaust I'm at 7.3 consistently. Bone stock I pulled 7.0 everyone.

I think with the weight of my front and rear bumpers, any performance gain is moot. It does drive better though, smoother acceleration without the leak.

Biggest reason I'm hesitant to add bumpers... mine revs so fast now it'll hit the Rev limiter taking off. It's crazy. Lol

Well they found my tick today. Coming from the passenger side on the secondary intake manifold ?? It's an aluminum rail that runs along the by the manifold. Nothing big and they don't have a welder on site and suggested I take to a machine shop who can tack it. Looks really hard to get to though. They indicated that is not a big deal and goes away after about 30'seconds.

did you do the headers? I am looking at getting some as well as exhaust. how much was it to install if you did not do them?

Anyone looked into these headers from Amazon of all places?

I'm definitely leaning towards getting a quote on replacing the headers and keeping the factory cats. I just today had a Flowmaster super 44 (2.5" in center 2.5" out offset) welded in and it sounds amazing! But I still get this damn ticking noise and it ruins the Flowmaster in my opinion.:cry2:

I think I might get the DT shorties.

they're fixing the wrong part. I had that tick. I replaced my PCV valve located in the driver side engine near the firewall, seems to work for me. I've never heard the tick after that. when did you last replace your PCV valve?
