I think I might get the DT shorties.

I am very seriously considering it as well. Just so damn expensive to get them installed. And I don't have a good space to do the work myself.

Got mine 5 days ago, cats were delayed (fedex) but got them yesterday. Dropped off at shop yesterday and going to pick up today!

Updates: the tick is gone!

A few things:

• You should post a post headers video clip.
• Pics of the new headers installed?
• Have you noticed any performance improvements?
• How much did the shop end up charging for the work?

Just curious, I've seen a few people weld these up, is that viable? luckily only my muffler is leaking a little so hopefully I can dodge a bullet here, already spent a lot of money on my 4runner the past year.

Mine has gone from predictable to strange. On start up everything sounds good. Drive it and still good. Shut it off for a little bit and start it back up and I get the putting sound for a while and then it goes away. At first I thought the passenger side was bad but now I am not sure (drivers side is brand new). I am now wondering about the second set of pipes between the manifold and the muffler.

3. It's very quiet. I noticed a slight improvement in throttle response when accelerating on the highway. I will have to do a 0-60 test.

Guys, is this definitely true?

I just picked up an '06 and it is definitely ticking on the driver's side. Wasn't doing it on my test drive, and has started doing it since I got home. Supposedly have a 50% covered (parts and labor) powertrain warranty. Do I ignore it, or try and get it fixed?

It's funny because for me, I didn't notice it until I started reading about it in this forum . How much did they quote you? Toyota dealer quoted me $3k for parts and labor. For well under $2k, I got DT headers and a local shop to install. Even with the 50% deal, I'd probably still go the aftermarket route.

I haven't been quoted. I just realized what the ticking sound was that seemed to be a cold start thing and would go away after reading this thread. I just want to know if I really can just ignore it for the time being, as I don't feel like messing with the expense of it right now.

Which brand of headers did you go with?

I paid $1400 at the dealership and got a warranty on it to boot.

Dang, truck went in to a highly recommended shop with an exhaust specialist on Monday morning to have the DT headers and Magnaflow cats installed. Still in the shop and they said it likely won't be done until tomorrow(Wednesday) sometime. Something tells me this is going to be $$$$$$$. :Cry:

Just wanted to provide an update on the DT headers and the two Magnaflow cats.

I've had them installed for a couple months now or something like that.

These headers are AMAZING. They sound beastly when combined with my Flowmaster Super 44.

Throttle response time is much better and I have noticed a slight increase in MPG. Though it is frequently offset by my now heavy foot...

Also just had my emissions done here in WA state. Passed with flying colors.

All together it ran me about $1800. $1100 ish for the labor which seems high to me, but I'm thinking the mechanic got hung up somewhere in the process.

Anyway, still cheaper than the stealership by a few hundred.

Thorley Header install report:

2005 V8 with Tick

DT Headers $780 (I didn't shop around)
Install cost $1500

Muffler shop quoted the 7 hours per side book rate....
Tick is gone and wallet much lighter.

Seems like throttle response is better, but I definilty have rationale to imagine the improvement...

I'm definitely leaning towards getting a quote on replacing the headers and keeping the factory cats. I just today had a Flowmaster super 44 (2.5" in center 2.5" out offset) welded in and it sounds amazing! But I still get this damn ticking noise and it ruins the Flowmaster in my opinion.:cry2:

Not an option on the V8's.

Any updates? still nice and quiet? Also did you get OBD2 cats for emissions? I've always been nervous about passing emissions in Washington (I thought it was a high standard, like Cali) I would be nervous to go through all that exhaust work, just to fail

May I see few pics from the DT headers welded to the new or old cats please? Just trying to visualize how the muffler shops handle this installation. I can't imagine the PITA factor when it comes to welding in this tight area!
