Best way for them to do it is set the headers in place, put cat up to it, tack weld, then pull it back out to weld completely. Not enough room otherwise.

What cats did you end up buying/installing? Have a link?
$800 for labor for both sides sounds amazing. What kind of shop did you use? A custom exhaust shop or a regular mechanic?
Glad to hear you passed emissions. That would be my worry too. Id be worried about using the old cats...
2005 4.7 Sport Limited with a pretty healthy tick. Been aware of it for a while but I think I am finally ready to do something about it.
Visited the dealer and got the pretty typical $1500 per side story so I have been looking at going with an aftermarket + local shop install. I have a couple of local shops with good reputations, however before I start asking for estimates I was hoping I could present what (i think) are the aftermarket options.... Lucky in Nv. no visual inspection . Went with urd spec headers & o2 simulator ! Quality excellent costs a bit more but wanted a tight good fit .

Super bummed. Picked up a 2005 v8 and didn't notice the tick or even know about it as an issue. Def has the issue. My offroad shop RSG quoted me $3400 and my dealer Mountain States Toyota said $3800. Going to try some other toyota specialist shops now.

You have a few cheaper options in Denver for sure. I have the DT headers in a box from the previous owner (who started the thread I'm linking) but I have yet to get it done. There's just other mechanical stuff that actually affects the performance of my car that I have to take care of first before I can justify fixing something I find more of an annoyance than anything (unless there's actually a worse impact to having a tick like that?).

‘08 V8 Sport. Ticking started about a month ago. Had what I thought was belt squeal early spring but ignored it and it went away then the ticking began, lol. Still need to replace belt and potentially pulley but never diagnosed.
Anyhoo, I only have 64k miles on the truck so I was wondering if I might qualify for some type of emissions warranty (up to 80k)...
Going to a stealer to see what they say tomorrow. Might have to go to an Indy, which some nice guys from North NJ have recommended (thank you, [MENTION=152841]ehcanadian[/MENTION])!

I can't really answer your question, but I will say that with all new vehicle warranties it is usually a time period and a mileage amount, it's one or the other so after the time period runs out the mileage is irrelevant, or after the mileage is reached the time period is irrelevant, so I wouldn't expect any help from a Toyota dealer in this case.

Yeah, that’s what I expect. 8 year/80k miles. Bought my car in 2016, the year emissions warranty expired. Maybe I can try to do some convincing...otherwise Thorley headers it is!

(owner of a 2003 toyota 4runner limited/V8) and i'm pretty sure i have an exaust leak/cracked manifold, however i don't smell eggs...but there is definitely a ticking when the car is in acceleration, not at idle. My question(s) to anyone is:

Is it throwing a code causing the check engine light to be on?
I’m not sure how it works in MA, but in MD the code maters, the leak doesn’t.
The cheaper solution is to pull it off have have it welded, but some say it will only last a year or so.
I have a V6 and mine is completely broken.

I just ordered a set today as well but from Burtman Industries. Im really tired of the noise but dont notice the smell like some say. Im going to bolt them in directly and leve the stock y pipe and catback oem for time being. I am going with the j shaped 02 spacers from amazon. I talked to a few longtube header owners and they have had no cels with these.
