Exhaust Mod Completed & Sulfur TSB Dealership Experience

I had the Sulfur Odor TSB done earlier this year, but it didn't solve the issue. Only one of the cats was updated (the other was just changed out with the same model # part). I'm not sure why the dealer didn't update both, but perhaps it would not have made a difference anyway. The correspondence with my dealer service department is shown below. I have erased names etc on the email trail.

For the exhaust mod I had the shop weld in a single piece of new stainless steel tubing (resonator removed). See picture below.

I looked into this further and found that the bulletin in question does not apply to the engine in your vehicle. We, however, used the information in the bulletin as a guide to address the odor problem. The parts that we used are correct for your vehicle and engine code.

The reason for my question was because I was under the impression that the TSB called for TO17410-50490 in place of TO17410-50450.

Could be that the Canadian TSB is different than the US version?

I was your original service advisor.

I have checked with our parts dept and the technician. They confirmed the correct parts were installed on your vehicle. There was some confusion with the parts listed in the bulletin. Our parts dept sorted that out with Toyota.

Subject: EXHAUST CONVERTERS - 2007 4Runner

The information that I had regarding the TSB (US model) for the Excessive Sulfur Odor for a 2007 V8 4Runner was that both catalytic converter assemblies were to be replaced with updated parts.

From the TSB:

The old catalytic converter assemblies were noted as part numbers 17410-50450 and 17450-50121.

The new catalytic converter assemblies were noted as part numbers 17410-50490 and 17450-50131.

Today’s Invoice:

When I looked at my invoice which I received today, it lists that 17410-50450 and 17450-50131 were installed.

Can you let me know why 17410-50490 was not installed? Has there been a part change?
