Exhaust Mods & Gas Mileage

I am looking into getting a more free flowing exhaust for my 98 4Runner and i was wondering about gas mileage. I am hoping to get 1 MPG better, is this possible??? I was looking at a 18" magnaflow. I read (and correct me if i'm wrong) that the stock piping is 2 1/4in. and i am not planning on S/C'ing it so i think thats fine. I was just going to replace the muffler. My 4Runner's got 150K miles and i'm thinking these parts are getting old.

Just put a Dynomax SuperTurbo muffler on our '00 T4R... Can't quantify any gas mileage increases though, mainly b/c I find myself laying into it a little more to hear the exhaust! Although the Dynomax is super mild, I'm lovin' the new throaty growl under acceleration.

Re: your stock muffler "getting old," don't know what climate you're in, but that stock Toyo muffler is a pretty sturdy piece. Muffler shop said it was SS, which I didn't know. Regardless, unless yours is visably rusting through, no need to replace it unless you just want the exhaust tone.

Again, seat of the pants performance, I didn't notice a difference. But I sure like the way it sounds!
