exhaust options?

i want a good exhaust that isnt to expennsive since i am on a budget i would like to be able to hear it, but not be so loud that it gets annoying to myself. just something moderate not anything over the top. Also i would like it to go out the side and not straight out the back.

Any ideas?

I've been debating this as well. I already had my local muffler shop cut my stock tip and resonator off to put in a muffler tip they had there. As far as mufflers its all over the board. Seems like maybe you'd enjoy the flowmaster SUV 50 series. I'm doing a magnaflow, but thats just based on stuff I've read on the internet.
 
well i have heard that flowmaster might as well be "dronemaster" and has terrible drone.... think that is true?
 
i picked up my Magnaflow muffler for $40 and had it installed with a tip for under $100. i figure thats about as cheap as youre going to get without installing it yourself.
 
Redbowtie has videos of his. He's the reason I decided to get my magnaflow. Not only is it cheap, but it sounds perfect in my opinion.
 
I'll throw this out there, look into the Gibson cat back. It's a little more than just the muffler, but I love the sound based on the vids I've heard. You can install yourself and that helps on the cost. I'm planning on the Gibson or Magnaflow, both seem to have less done from what I hear.
 
rebelbowtie.... what exact model muffler is that?
and when you did that did you keep the stock catalytic converter or did you replace that too?
If you did not keep it is that a necessarily piece of the exhaust system?

so would removing the cat give me better gas or anything or what does removing the cat do for you? and i live in kentucky!! we dont een know what emission control is! haha

removing the cat would eliminate a small if any(unless your converter is on its way out/clogged) bottle neck in the factory exhaust. personally if youre looking for maximum flow i would recommend a high flow converter, this way you are recieving the performance benefits and remaining legal and not dumping unburnt fuel into the air and stinking up traffic.
 
well i have a stock air filter and box minus the removal of the hydrocarbon filter.... so if i had a high end exhaust that would help the performance a lot wouldnt it almost be counter productive since i dont plan on putting a cold air intake in?
 
:lol: no it never hurts to have better flowing exhaust i just couldnt justify the money with the benefits. same with a CAI, i would never run one because the benefit is 99.9% at WOT which is where i spend 0.1% of my driving.

if you have the money by all means piece together an awesome exhaust system piece by piece. i did on my last truck and do not regret it, i just have a family that requires my funding instead of a truck.
 
ok well i think i might just get the muffler and then point the exhaust out of the right side soi dont smell it! and leave it atthat:D
 
To be honest, I've done many muffler replacements on cars. Replacing just the muffler I have a magnaflow on my Mr2 and it drones quite a bit (27" round truck muffler) at around 3000rpm. I had a Borla XR1 on my 944 and that will set off car alarms but the most amazing sound ever.

One of my friends put a dynomax on his Mr2 V6 and that sounded pretty cool too. it's much quieter than the magnaflow he had on it, but still has a good tone.

I had a Jeep with a Flowmaster 50 and to be honest, it was the best one I've had as far as sound. It has the deep, throaty sound, without the massive drone. People say the Flowmaster drones because they have the 40 series that is loud as hell. It's going to drone. You can hear here that it's not that loud with the 50 series, just sounds deeper. One hint with a flowmaster, mount it seam side up:

listen to other exhausts on youtube and see what you like. At least you can get an idea of tone there if nothing else.
