Exhaust Pipe and Muffler

So the exhaust pipe rusted and broke away from the muffler.

I bring it to my local dealership, it's about $550.00 for the muffler (and exhaust pipe as quoted) yesterday.

I get a call back today and they said the muffler came in, but the exhaust pipe is extra - an extra $200.00


WTF?

Do the mufflers and exhaust pipes come as separate pieces?

why the stealer? they love to take money not to save you money! a regular muffler shop would been cheaper just to re-weld the pipes back on with new piping.

Yeah, no kidding.

I talked to my brother in law who has a tire store and can give me the hookup with a muffler shop down the street from him.

It went from 800+ to $725 (he has to talk to "his manager").

After this I'm going to my brother in law's place for everything else.

Now the total is $689.00 - after getting off the phone.

Learned my lesson with this one.

my dad just had this issue with his 99 limited. since he works at a toyota dealership it was actually cheaper for him to get the full TRD cat back system then purchasing the pipe and muffler. I think he said around $475 for the whole thing. I asked him about the muffler and pipe for mine, and he said just to get the cat back system because they won't just sell the tip.
