Exhaust Pipe Retainer

Hello All...

Getting ready to replace the exhaust on my 2000 4Runner...

Does anyone have a picture (or details) of how the Exhaust Pipe Retainer is installed?

PN: 18495-62010

Circled in red in the attached pic.

I vaguely remember tearing the old retainer off years ago because it was rusted out and creating a rattle under the car, but I have no idea how it is supposed to be mounted on the exhaust.

If I remember correctly, there are 2 of these that "surround" the exhaust pipe?

Do I even need to re-install this part? What does it do?

I seem to remember that there were 2 retainers installed originally? One covered the bottom half, the other covered the top half? Does this seem correct?

I have no idea how I would install 2 of these retainers given the bolts are permanently attached?

I just looked again and all the nuts are toward the motor (forward). I only saw one retainer just after the rear cat/muffler joint in place from above. I really only think it's purpose it to hold the nuts in place (nut retainer) as I don't see any other purpose. I only saw one in place.

Exhaust pipe bracket

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but it seems I am not able to post a new thread. Does anyone know if the bracket is supposed to be welded to the pipe? I am missing the bracket somehow. The "rings" that are supposed to secure over the bracket arms just freely spin on the arms on the frame of the truck. I've been hearing metallic rattling for weeks now anytime I hit any size bump or hole and am wondering if it has something to do with the exhaust pipe now that I see these supports are gone.

Forget what I said - I just remembered the previous owner replaced the catalytic converter and it obviously is non-OEM. Thus, the lack of bracket.

However, I still have the rattle. Sounds like it is from front end but I've pushed and pulled on whatever I can get my hands on and don't feel anything loose.
Originally thought it may be the cage protecting the fuel tank but it is secure. Also, the front skid plate but it is also very secure. Any thoughts?

For me that rattle was a rusty rotor dust shield on my front drivers side and the rusty Aux cooling lines to the heater under the passenger seat.

I just cut off the rusty dust shields. I have a few sets of 01 and 02 rear heater lines that are stainless if you want to replace those lines let me know.
