Exhaust Smell 2010 TRAIL VERSION

Hi, im new in the forum, i would like to know if anyone get the same issue with the smell of the catalytic on the 2010 trail version???, every time that i accelerate full the engine i get this smell ???

anyone knows something in the 2010 model ??

Are you referring to the rotten egg smell?

In short, you will get the smell when going up-hill with the rear window down (At least that's when myself and others get the smell). Here are two threads discussing the issue;

Yes, unfortunately Toyota still equips the 2010 model with the rotten egg exhaust smell. This has been an on-going issue for nearly 10 years now...

And contrary to what some people may tell you, not all cars do it, but it sure seems to be more typical in Toyota vehicles these days.

I have only experienced the smell in Toyota vehicles, my friends 1999 Camry had the smell and boy it was bad!

On the other hand, I brought my brand new T4R TE into CA to register it and they had to smog test it. They said it had comparably low emissions as a Prius. (emissions tests don't count CO2).

So, if the smell is related to the catalytic converter, at least it seems to work on keeping emissions down.

I actually swapped my catalytic converter out to an aftermarket unit and the smell disappeared completely. Also, they don't check do a tailpipe test for emissions in NY anymore...
