exhaust smell with back window down

Hey
I have the resonator still on and the tip just aims straight back.
I cant drive with the back window down with out getting exhaust back into the rig.
There is no wing on the back. So if I have the exhaust run out the side will I still smell it? Shold I cut the resonator off so I can get it more out the side?
Its a waste to have the back window be able to go down if I cant drive with it that way.

A lot of people cut the resonator off and point it out the side. I'm one of those people. It helps a lot but doesn't completely reduce the smell. The price you pay to drive an ultra low emissions vehicle.
 
The vehicle is not designed to be driven with the rear window down, besides exhaust fumes it also pulls in dust, dirt,sand ect..
 
I was able to do so on my other 4runner with no issues. I forgot the year it was though. LOL
But it also had the wing and I have heard that helps to deflect air past the window to help stop some of the smell and dirt from entering.

Hey guys is this an East coast thing with the rear down ? I see people n Vegas doing it & their outta towner plates , just saying ! Every 4r I've ever had sucked it in & everyone else's exhaust to .

I dunno if it's an east coast thing or not? I just think it's nice to have all the windows down and air circulating through sometimes. Assuming you're not in bumper to bumper traffic or hammering the gas it's usually fresh air.

I don't quite understand what you're saying here. Maybe it's the poor grammar, but it looks like you're saying people who live in Vegas are smarter than out of towners?

I would go this far, as long as your not driving it like it stolen then the exhaust smell isn't that noticable plus I really enjoy cruising with all the windows down. I will agree that its gotta go up for dirt roads, I learnt that lesson the hard way.

I'm live in a valley far from any coast and I love having the back window down or at least open a bit. One thing I like it for (and I think i've mentioned this before) when I'm in the city is if someone gives me right-of-way or lets me pull in front of them in traffic, I give the guy a thank you wave thru the back window which would normally not be visible if it was up because of the tint.
 
I take the dog with me almost everywhere so I drive with the window down a lot. I just had the tail pipe on my 5th gen routed to the side, behind the right rear tire. It drastically reduced the sulphur smell. Really makes a difference.
 
What about the noise, i have to say i like the tone you can hear with the window down, does the resonator delete amplify that, if so im cutting it off this weekend! I'll be honest i love the windows down, the smell and dirt i could care less about with the sunroof open and all windows down, it might as well have a removable hard top.

Whoa wasn't insinuating anything , just wondering if that's what's going on ! Hell its just usually way to hot for us is all . Poor grammar is due to txting 15 yr son who doesn't use his ph. to call Dad !! Was simply asking if ? And no I know I'm not smarter , just see people from other sts. with their's down sucking our hot dirty air & thinking wow. So that's all , hope I cleared that up ? Apologize for any confusion . This forum has afforded me way to many resources to be flaming someone .
 
Does any one know the size of the exhaust so i can run down to the shop and buy a tip to get it out the side?

No problem oljedi, didn't mean to come off defensive. I guess I didn't think about how hot & polluted it must be there with all the traffic.

rear window down

No worries Gaterose , I've kinda learned its tough to really know someone's intent speaking on these forums , so I usually try to be plain . Bit I digress , had mine routed just behind RR mudflap but not far enough to stick out passed it & down cpl degrees , seems to flow on still not pull it back n the rear when I have it down n our 3 months of winter LOL
