Exhaust Spring bolt size

Hello,

I have a 2004 4Runner Limited V8 with non Cali exhaust. I am trying to remove spring bolts between cat and muffler. It looks like the flange has nuts welded on.

Are the spring bolts 14 or 15 mm? The 15 mm socket felt like it was slipping. I don’t want to round off the edges. If it’s 14 mm, I’ll hammer one on. I’m using impact socket and have soaked studs several times with penetrating spray.

Seems like a popular project today. I don't know the size, but it sounds like getting the cutting wheel out is the way to go.

Replacing catback... how to tackle exhaust bolts?

Thanks. The link was helpful. My only concern with cutting the bolts is if the nuts are welded to cat flange. There is a lip there that would make it hard to grind or cut them off.

.. I had the same issue, we used a torch :flame: to liquidfy the bolts...

You got the bolts super hot with torch and then could loose them?
