exhaust tip installation question

hey all,
i have an 08 urban runner which came with a bigger exhaust tip. i think it was apart of one of the packages, i can't remember. but just recently it seems to have gotten loose and is rattling at low rpms.

i took a look at it and it doesn't look like it has a screw or bolt. i can just use my hand and pull off the exhaust tip whenever i choose. is this right? what prevents it from just randomly falling off?

i'm trying to see if maybe a bolt or screw is missing so i can fix this rattling issue.

please let me know. thanks all.

nope, that's not right. there was a band clamp on it at some point. that clamp and another filler piece was what completed it from what i remember. you probably have about a 1" square cut out missing now if i'm thinking right. you're under warrranty, just run by the dealership and have them fix it....or to your local hardware/auto parts store for a band clamp.

I got rid of my resinator recently. I also had the large clamp-on tip. I guess the clamp busted when they took it off so the muffler shop welded it back on. No worries from me as the tip was/is pretty worn anyway.
If Toyota won't help you, any muffler shop can tack that on for next to nothing or free. That should stop your rattle.

Here is a quick fix for you:

Simple drill a small hole (or two) through one of the mounting holes in the tip, drilling through the pipe. Then use a small stainless sheet-metal screw to hold it on even better.

No worries

well the darn thing fell off already :(

guess i'll have to buy a new one. I was just driving around town this weekend and noticed that it was gone. I have no idea where it could've fallen off.

any1 know off the top of their head how much a replacement would cost?

Toyota wants too much. You can get one online or go to any exhaust shop adn see what they have. They'll weld that on in 10 minutes.

hey, im actually pretty new to car stuff.

so i need to find:
1. an exhaust tip
2. an exhaust shop that will weld the tip to my current exhaust. like a midas?

I'm not looking to spend too much. i dont necessarily need some awesome performance exhaust that will boost hp or sound. I just want something shiny so that my muffler looks normal again. i hate how the stock exhaust looks.

will they have to remove my whole muffler to weld the tip on? im sure they will charge more for labor if they have to remove the muffler.

whats a fair average price for #1 and for #2?

don't bother with the welding nonsense then

if the tip is all you are looking for then it can be purchased and put on. takes less then 5 minutes. you were in fact missing the band clamp or the bolt that tightens the clamp. it simply slides on then you tighten the bolt with a 5/8 ratchet and don't have to worry about it again.
