Expectations

Damn! For $46,000 I should be able to expect Toyota to at least bend the Laws of Physics !

(and why can't I have TRD Pro floormats in my TE?)

...most people hate to agree with me...

I would never say that I hate to agree with you, 1E, but if you ever give me the excuse, I would be quite happy to disagree with you, LOL! (Not that you are likely to give that opportunity!)

:bounce:

ps., many of the things in this thread needed to be said - there are too many whiners in this world!

the people here that actually use their 4runner like the Land Cruiser bloodline intended them to, appreciate what the vehicle offers - because we've experienced FJ40's, Jeeps, 60 series, old Land Rovers.

what we have now are people who are complaining because they come from a prissy car and the mall parking lot. don't get me wrong i hate a rattle as much as the next person, or and wish various features (IE, the 4.7L V8) were available but many don't realize and appreciate what the 4runner is.

Didn't I ask you to change your Avatar dammit?!

Lately I have been reading in the 5th gen section of people lamenting the lack of features in a 4Runner. Even when a feature is included or purchased some don't like the operation. Why is this? Do people not test drive? Do people not ask questions? Given salesman's reputations, do people actually believe the words coming out of their mouths? Obviously I would ask about people actually researching a vehicle by reading up on one before spending this much money but that would be futile. I know people don't read anymore as evidenced by the questions asked here when the owner's manual or the Toyota website has the answers. One of the most grating reads goes something like this:

"I can't believe a $40,000 vehicle does not have "X" option!"

Newsflash: In 2013 the AVERAGE price of a new vehicle was $32,000. In 2014 the AVERAGE price of a pickup truck was over $40,000! $40K is not a lot of money for a vehicle anymore guys. Go look at list prices (list prices, not some massive discount scheme Jeep offers) for vehicles that are in the Toyota 4Runner class. Yeah, $40K is a pretty good deal compared to the competition.

I'm pretty sure Toyota does not use false advertising or bait and switch tactics when selling a vehicle. I have went to the Toyota website many times and every package and option is spelled out in 4th grade reading comprehension. As far as operating any of the controls and features, the owner's manual is the ultimate resource. If you need deeper knowledge, TIS offers a two day membership for a nominal fee.

Human nature dictates what people want. Simply put they want everything for nothing. After reading thousands of threads this is my conclusion:

1. People want every cool and new option available
2. People want the vehicle to get Prius efficiency numbers
3. People want the ruggedness of a Unimog
4. People want the ride of a Bentley
5. People want the handling of a Ferrari
6. People want the reliability and durability of an anvil
7. People want the power of a Hellcat
8. People DO NOT want their vehicle to obey the laws of Physics
9. People DO NOT want to pay for any of the above.

Toyota makes a really nice upscale SUV called the Land Cruiser. It has many more features and is only $80,000.

Now I ask, is my list wrong?

Excellent post...

just be glad you folks aren't buying a vehicle in Canada. take what you paid and add 10K for no ****ing reason.....

You do see the irony with complaining about all of the underinformed people here, right?... I mean, it gives most of you 'senior' members purpose (specifically in this thread, 1e). That is to say, without questions from complete idiots like us you'd never have the opportunity to mount your soapboxes and hug that Internet lectern while we all marvel at the Socratic brilliance echoing down from Mt. Olympus.

That is, unless you take great pleasure in massaging your own ego. In that case, well done.
I don't take anything 1engineer, or anyone else on this site, says all that serious or personal for that matter. A lot of these guys have been very helpful when I had some really stupid questions though. I did extensive searching but heck even when I had to get Antman to explain to me what a relay was he didnt make too much fun of me. So while yeah they don't hold back when a newbie posts a question that's been asked dozens of times, the "senior" members are incredibly helpful if you want to stick around and learn.

I'm definitely down to learn more without a doubt, so I'll be around for a while. It's nice to have a heavier helping of helpfulness to ridicule, but some of it is fair ribbing I suppose.

There are 3 features I want that my 2011 Limited doesn't have, OEM HID's, a trip computer, and a cargo area cover that actually covers the whole cargo area.

It wasn't a reply specifically to your post or the topic of unreasonable expectations, it was a reply to the topic of wanting things the truck doesn't offer. People will always want more no matter what.

:fishing: oh! I'd be satisfied with 4/9! Number 3,6,7,9 are all I ask for! Lol. So true though. It's getting tiring to read all the complaints about what people don't have, as though it was a total surprise in their $40k vehicle. News flash! You can get pretty close if you dump another $20k into it!!! That's a savings of $20k off the LC! Think of all the fix-it's it can do for the savings!

That's what you got out of my post?

What they got from your post was that they secretly want:

1. The 4runner to be self driving.
2. The computer in the 4runner to read their minds.
3. The auto spell function of the mind reading computer to never incorrectly autocorrect their ADD thoughts.
5. The windows to simulate rolling down (because they don't want to smell the real world). (Back window complainers care to disagree)?
6. Float on air because, you know, sitting in a seat is so uncomfortable.
7. Get from point A to point B without any real world interference.
8. It should be completely free for them because they deserve everything you have worked for.
9. They want it NOW.

If you want a full cargo cover you have to make your own.

This is for 1engineer. The 4th gens had a full cargo cover. It is a good thing I am retired so that I have time to get my 5th gen up to 4th gen specs.

Would have to agree with you on this one. Can't build a car that does everything. Corvettes go fast and handle fantastic. 4Runners are the best body/frame SUV for the cost. If you want fast/handling in an SUV, buy a BMW. However, when you are running in 24" of snow, the BMW ain't nor do you see the BMW running up the dirt trail that hasn't seen a wheel since the last Conestoga. Been doing some serious scouting the past week on new hunting areas......my 14 TE handled it all. Just going to take a week to remove the mud.
