Expected price for body shop to fix this

It may just be cheaper to find a new bumper. And for the body it depends on who you go to really.
I've been trying to find one online, can you help me out? I'm a bit confused, which one is the bumper end cap? the dented part below my tail lights or the punched looking like area?
And by body work, that = paint etc. right?

Check out the salvage yards. Car-part.com has nationwide listings.
The bumper end cap is the bottom piece with the big round dent. I'd guess fixing the dent under the tail light and painting it will be $300 or so. If you can find the bumper end cap (and put it on yourself), you're probably looking at another $50-100.

And great chance for you to get a plate bumper -cbi, shrockworks or what ever you like best. I wouldn't put the money in for a body shop to fix

and for the bumper.... have insurance cut you a check and invest in a steel rear bumper with spikes!!!! spikes look bad@55

I have both though.
So I went out and got a free quote from a local body shop:
Parts - $172
Body Labor - 7.2hrs @ 38/hr = $273
Paint Labor - 5 hrs @ 38/hr = $190
Paint Supplies - 5 hrs @26/hr =$130
Misc = $72
Rough estimate = $ 837
This too expensive or sounds about right? I have AAA insurance but I don't know exactly what type to see if I have to pay deductible to get this fixed or if my rates go up (I'm 21 yrs old).
What do you guys think? Should I pay out of pocket or make an insurance claim?

One of my runners had the same dent in the quarter panel, but the bumper was fine. Got a $850 or so bid to fix it, so your quote sounds pretty fair.
Personally, I'd just leave it, but I'm a cheap ass that way.

It takes those guys 7.2hrs to fix that tiny dent? What parts are they buying, the part that's dented? If so then it shouldn't take 7.2hrs. And why is paint supplies in hours? Search for a bumper at the salvage yard of same color and replace it. The minor dent above can be cleaned bondoed and rattle can painted. Or buy a plate bumper.

NO it doesn't take 7.2 hours to fix the dent! That is .3 to remove the light, .6 to remove the bumper end, .5 to remove the flare parts, 1.0 to buff the paint after it's painted, etc. Actual time on that dent is probably 2.5 or 3.0.
Now the reason the paint supplies is in hours is because it is a direct correlation to the paint labor hours. 5 labor and 5 materials. It's an archaic way body shops charge for paint materials, and is not very fair to the shop, but it's been done that way for the last 50-60 years and the insurance companies like it because in the end the shop takes it in the gazoo.
The estimate is actually quite low in my opinion. It is a professional opinion, since I spent 30+ years in the auto body business, 14 as a shop owner.
Everybody thinks its so easy to just slap some bondo on there and paint it like you would the stucco on your house. But then it looks like shit, and you just don't care. But if you DO care, leave it to a pro, or someone with skills. Otherwise just slap a sticker on it and leave it alone.

When I needed some body work done (heavy Rudy around windshield) my neighbor actually recommended a body man to me. He's the only body man for a local shop that does everything from high dollar restorations to fixing fiberglass hoods for semis. I ended up paying $800, or slightly under that, for the guy to have someone remove the windshield, then sand and seal the frame around the windshield and paint to blend with the roof, thenjoy have the guy reinstall a new windshield. No this guy did do it on the side, but he does great work. So if you are able to find someone like that you could probably get a good deal. In this case I had some very good references and the guy was able to write me a receipt with warranty. So there's nothing wrong with trying to save some money, just as long as you take some precautions.
If I were you I might try to fix it on my own. I kow it's not the easiest job but it'd give you some good experience. At the very least you could pull the dent, fill and sand, then take it to have sprayed.

Who is ultimately paying for the repair? The answer is directly related to the quotes you are getting. As previously advised, unless you have structural damage or a lifetime warranty through insurance, take a cheque and not the second "offer", take the third "offered" amount, and then have your vehicle fixed out of pocket.
