Expedition Portal Status?

As I'm sure there are a lot of members here who frequent that site, is anyone else here having trouble getting onto expedition portal's site?

I can load the main site (with the articles and merchandise) just fine, but can't load the forum itself.

I was able to get on just fine on my phone via my browser and Tapatalk. Strange.

Any idea on how I troubleshoot that?

You don't, or at least you can do anything about it. From the results here it looks to be an eastern issue. From a command prompt or terminal you can try "ping forum.expeditionportal.com" and see if that works, and if you resolve the IP (I'm getting 50.28.25.200 from CO and TX). If you can resolve the IP then it's not a DNS update and caching issue and is a problem along the route. In that case ou can also try "tracert 50.28.25.200" (that's on Windows, use "traceroute 50.28.25.200" on MacOS/Linux). You won't be able to actually DO anything, but it will show where along the path the problem lies.

For example here is my traceroute result once I get upstream of my ISP:

11 lw-dc3-core1-eth2-19.rtr.liquidweb.com (209.59.157.244) 41.621 ms 40.547 ms 42.435 ms
12 lw-dc3-dist8-po5.rtr.liquidweb.com (69.167.128.133) 41.780 ms 42.444 ms 40.360 ms
13 w1.expeditionportal.com (50.28.25.200) 42.884 ms 41.367 ms 42.532 ms

I tried to ping the site, but the request timed out 4 times.

It notes the IP for the site: 50.28.25.200

Are you suggesting that there could be regional network problems between my computer's location and the site's server location?

Edit: Also, I tried the tracert command; the command timed out after 14 different hops.

Exactly. Since you can resolve the IP and not ping it, it's not a DNS issue but a "you can't get there from here" issue. There's nothing you can do but wait it out. The Internet is resilient against these types of failures by design but peering and routing issues can still cause these types of splits.

As an enduser, you're limited to dealing with last mile and in-the-house "binary" issues where everything works or doesn't (typically). In cases like this it's safe to assume that there are alarms going off and frantic network engineers already on it as it's guaranteed to be bigger than just you not able to hit Expedition Portal's forum.

Apparently they have reoccurring issues with their hosting that causes random blockages for blocks of IP's until someone manually clears them. I'm locked out of them from home now which is annoying because I was in the middle of a little project I intended to post there in our local forum area.

If anyone on here has a minute and access, there is a thread in their help section on it, maybe tell them folks are having issues again. Chris Chords was working on it I think.
