Just out of curiosity. Who has built one before? I have wanted to do one for about 10 years. Since I just bought a 4runner and apparently don't have enough to do to get it where I wanted it...i decided to look at these as well.

What if, and this is a big what if, he wanted to discuss this with others and bounce ideas off people ilo reading past posts? Can we not discuss things that have already been written in the annals of history or is this a "fresh and cutting edge" thread forum only. Just trying to understand the rules as this isn't really how society works or schools would issue textbooks only and fire all the teachers/professors/mentors/tutors etc. Scratching my head?

The personal interaction, teaching, mentoring, collaboration point must have flew way over your head I guess. I don't want to derail this thread any more as I want to hear about the trailer builds.
 
If we resurrect an existing thread on the topic. Maybe the next person who comes along can get the excellent information in one spot instead of 20 different threads.

Call me crazy, I know!

So discuss. Most of the time when I want to discuss something I do research first so I don't sound like a dumbass. To each their own though.

I built my own trailer, and have around 10k in it the way it sits. It is for sale for $15,000 with the new Foxwing and tapered walls. Just added a whole bunch of upgrades.

You can find standard tubs, which work well for gear haulers. If you want to get into the the big leauges...a buddy just ordered a Moby 1 with shit ton of options, I think he's going to be well over 25K

Eventually I'll be moving the rtt to the trailer and I've got a few other things to add down the road.

Those are awesome. I am trying to figure out what I am going to do. My goal is to do a tent etc. But gotta figure it out. I appreciate all of your inputs.
 
I've wanted to build one for a while. One of the thoughts I've had all along was how to make the suspension adjustable height so I can drop it down for highway cruising and bump it up for off-road.

I've really come to two different options. First is use a torsion axle with the longest arms I can find and build a mechanism to rotate it so it's a drop axle then a lift axle.

The other would be to just use some old fox air springs. How would I possibly fit a 20+ inch collapsed spring in though? And then I'd have to build a 3 link suspension for it - not a big deal, but a bit more effort.

Any other great ideas?

I figured the frame could be steel, the box and the rest I'd probably build in honeycomb/fiberglass/epoxy that I have left over from another project. It's insanely light and strong and allows for complex curves but kind of a pain to work with.

A-Arm suspension with air bags would be your best bet. This will allow you to adjust ride height but will change the ride characteristics (obviously rougher with more height/air). This will probably be the least complicated way to get an adjustable suspension on a trailer.

I opted to go with a simple leaf spring set up on my teardrop. Currently it will be spring under and when I have the clearance to fit it into a garage that isn't limiting me to a 7' height, I can simply flip the axle and do a spring over for 4-5" of lift and fit 34s (to match the truck).

Glad you're finally building something!!

Just a suggestion, which is worth what you paid for it, I'd run that center tongue member back to the next bay to rear. Lots of pressure at that junction...but may be a non issue if you you use box steel, say 2" x 4". I'm sure Greg could finger it out as well...:hug:
