Experience with an Alpine HU??

I just bought a new HU , but the pesky Alpine thats in it now wont come out, how do I get it out short of finding the specific removal tools? Its an Alpine CDA-7892

Would a straight rip work?

If I remember correctly mine is just held in place by four screws. You have to take the trim pannel off to access them though.

Which HU and speakers are those? I can tell one is a two way 6.5" and one is a 5.25" or 5.75" (I guess those are Sonys?).

Head Unit- Dual XDMA6415
Front Speakers- Pioneer TS-G1642R 6 1/2"
Rear Speakers- Sony Xplod XS-R1343 5 1/4"

removing the headunit you have to pull the heat/ac pannel, use a coat hanger and stick it in one of the slots and GENTLY pull the black pannel off, after that remove the screws ataching the whole center console with a few strong tugs,

after the whole center console is removed the should be some screws holding the head unit in or tabs in the back that you will have to fold back down and the headunit will slide right out.

Not yet but i plan too.
Just a cheap one from Wal-Mart for the speakers then i plan on doing 2 CVR 12's with a Brutus

Let me know how they sound compared to the stock speakers. I need to change my speakers because my speakers distort when my HU is on 19/34, but my subs can take more.

not to sound rude, but leave the alpine in, and take the dual back .... i tried that brand out a few years back.... absolute junk. out of the two head units died after a couple months, and the other lasted just past the warranty, then the display went out. the worst part is the head units were the best parts we tried out!

On my '99 SR5 manual, you need to pull off the whole center trim panel pulling from the bottom. You have to get the bottom clear of the center console by a little prying. FSM says to actually remove the center console around the shifter first. Once the trim is off, the HU is held in by four screws into the sides of the HU.

I suppose someone could have used an Alpine sleeve where the HU slides out, but it would be more work and a poorer result in terms of solidity. If the sleeve is there, you can see it with the face plate off. Newer Alpines come out with two flat metal tools down each side like a narrow butter spreader, the older ones used the two holes on each side type--the right nails or drill bits will do it. (Lots of Alpines in my life, I have bought nothing else since 1980.) But you probably don't have a slide-out setup.

I agree with Stick--Dual made great turntables in the seventies but their present day electronics are pretty bad.
