experience with backup cameras?

I have a lot of questions for my "new" to me 2005 4runner. First I want to start looking at backup cameras. I plan on getting an aftermarket nav system too.

I have read a lot about the backup cameras and some will have great reviews mixed with very poor reviews of failure after one day. I was hoping to find what the experience of others here about a good quality one that is not going to be way too pricey. I do not want to get an inexpensive one and have it go bad requiring me to pull it out and rewire a new one. I want to run the wiring one time and be done.

I do not want a wireless because I have been reading about problems with interference with wifi signals, bluetooth etc... and the quality is not as good as wired.

Anyone have experience with a good one they are happy with?
did it get mounted above the license plate area? or on the license plate frame? or up high below the rear spoiler?

I appreciate any input.
thank you!

OP, does your '05 have rear spoiler? I ask because our '08 has factory camera and spoiler and everything has been fine. But the picture on the backup camera on my wife's vehicle, not a 4Runner, is getting more and more blurry after each winter. My theory is it is from road salt and crud basically sandblasting the lens, but it is just a theory.

i installed a HD cam in the back to a pioneer and havent had issues.

Dont depend on back up cams tho turn around like you normally would backing up

+1. Gotta love those corner mirrors on the insides of the D pillars, too. Really helpful when backing out of parking stall that is surrounded on both sides by tall trucks.

I bought a Boyo bullet-type camera from Amazon a few years ago for about $70. Mounted it in the spoiler, and it's been problem-free since then.
