Explain Something I never understood: License Plates

So something I never have ever understood, with exception of one idea, is why everyone hides their license plate #'s when they sell their car. What is the big deal? If we hide it on pictures, why don't we hide it when we drive? There are 10 times as many people who see your license plate on a daily basis compared to selling it on the internet. I just find it funny to see how many people go thru great lengths to photo shop or place an object in front of it, as if there is not another way to get it, IE when you go grocery shopping.

The only thing I think of is preventing a potential buyer from obtaining a license plate # for a carfax record check or something...

Anyone see what I am saying???

Yea some people think its easily accessible.. which the database isn't i believe.. and that someone will come knocking on their door after smashing/vandalizing/jacking their car/truck..

i get both sides...if youre selling a stock car its less of a big deal but if you have heavily modified one and posting all of your mods (mainly interior). someone can find your address and know what you have worth stealing. out and about at the grocery store they wouldnt know that but people lurking on the interweb trying to find stuff to steal, the least amount of info you give the better.
 
Seriously... never blocked my plates before... never thought it was necessary. If someone really wants your shit, there's always a way for them to find out where you are.

At least if someone does try something at my house, I've got 3 cameras pointed at my truck, 4 motion lights, and an alarm system. Then there's a pissed off owner (me) to deal with. Haha, then there's the internet after I post the videos and photos of them. Probably not a good idea to steal stuff from my truck.

J/K, that's actually pretty gorgeous place- very lucky.

As for license plate stuff, if I'm posting something here, I really don't care.
If it's selling it online (CL), plate gets covered. Too many crazy-arse people out there.

Yea seriously... I'm more worried I will piss someone off locally and I'm the only person around here who has a hi-lift strapped to the front of their bumper. Sometimes I wish I didn't have such a unique/recognizable vehicle...
