Explain the wave pattern of the VAF please

Hello everybody!

I have the 3vze engine in a 93 4runner and I'm trying to solve my check engine light problem. Im getting codes 25 and 26. Rich and lean. I have replaced my o2 sensor before really looking into the problem, like everyone says to do but that was not it.
It IS running great! if the check light didn't come on I wouldn't know something was wrong. And I did clear the codes after replacing the o2 senor!

However, I was wondering if you could clarify the "wave pattern" that is mentioned in the Toyota service manual when testing the volume air flow meter?
I've looked everywhere for the answer and can't find it.

When I test mine, it starts at ~300 ohms fully closed. When I open it slowly it will rise smoothly to ~650 ohms after a few millimeters, then smoothly drop down to ~150 ohms after another few millimeters. This will continue multiple times until the vane is fully open. The fully open value is ~50 ohms

Is this how it should be????

To me that IS a wave pattern....(up and down). But it don't understand how the ECU would know which part of the "wave" it was on (how far open the vane is).

Other vane type VAF meters have a steady increase in resistance as the vane opens which makes perfect sense! But that is not a "wave", that would be a directly proportional increase in resistance......right?

All the other values are within spec, but I'm just not sure about this "wave pattern" that is mentioned in the manual.

I would appreciate your thoughts!!! Thanks

Yeah I will do if I can find a place that will accept full refunds :heh:
I thought someone would have done the test before!?
Thanks for the reply, at least someone acknowledged my question
