Extended bump stops?

I noticed in some of the build threads that folks are using extended bump stops. I originally thought this was only nessisary for extended travel shocks, but a couple build threads on 120 site had pictures with extended bump stop and regular travel shocks.

So is it nessisary?

They are required with extended travel shocks, but also needed to limit up travel for those running larger tires. The guys running 35s have to have them to keep the tires from rubbing at full stuff. To my knowledge that's the only two reasons to run them.

That makes sense. Both builds I was looking at we're running 35's
