extended coilover problems

Hi
I am wondering if anyone else is having problems with the extended coilover in the front?
I am having problems with my cv's binding at full droop. I have Icon coil overs with total chaos upper control arms.
when you spin the front wheels they stop at a point and need to be pushed past then they spin again. this happens on both sides.
I am starting to wonder if I need limiting straps
I already lowered the truck about 1" since the front was too high
thanks

I have no problems. Nor do any friends who have extended travel.

Do you have OEM CV or Napa/ AutoZone type replacements?

I have oem cv's

I know I haven't heard of problems and when I did a quick search I couldn't find anything on it
wondering if it could be something else?

I had this problem when I did the extended travel coil overs from Radflo. I suspect that the shocks were built with too much extension in them as could be the case with yours. You got to figure all of these are being assembled by hand - there's bound to be an assembly mistake, order misread, etc.

At full droop mine would bind and would create an issue when driving. Aftermarket axles were of no help as the inner CV joints were much less tolerant of articulating. Diff drop really wasn't much of a help, and really only served as a band-aid that slightly alleviated the binding (never liked diff drop kits anyways). I ended up going to a machine shop with my OEM's and having them cut back the inner CV joint by about 1/2" and re-machining the notch grooves for the CV boot and clamps.

Adjusting the coil over lift height will not help much as the shock will still allow bind during down travel no matter what.

Here's a discussion of my issue over on the "other" forum:

Diff drop time!

Of course it spaces your skid plate down so does it really help?

I had a friend notch the oem cv's and it helped a little bit. I was worried that I bent the knuckle and that did it but it sounds like your solution may be the fix
can you tell me where you got them cut down? I wonder if I could have them do mine or let me know what to tell a shop here

I had mine done at this shop somewhat local to me:

JB's Auto Machine

I honestly think this would be the way to go versus using limiting straps (unless a long travel suspension were being used). I think this would still end up being cheaper.

Did the OP ever come up with a solution? I just installed my front icon extended coilovers and I think I'm having the same problem. I don't have a diff drop kit so I should probably get one and see if it fixes it.
