Extended Life Tire Program???

Anyone taken advantage of the Toyota "ExtraMile Extended Life Tire Program"??? Toyota reimburses you up to $200 per tire if you get your tires rotated at the dealer every 5k miles.

I've searched but not much has been written about it.

I've been getting mine rotated at the dealer every 5k and I just rolled over 50k a couple weeks ago. I'll be getting new tires within a month or so and we will see how good this program really is. At $18 a rotation x 10 rotations... I'll pay $180 to get free tires.

Not that I know of... I think it may be a regional program. Every dealership in the area has it. When you build a toyota online it its listed in the "Extra Mile Option Packages A, B, or C". Kinda weird that its not offered other places. The 2 local Toyota dealerships I've been to both told me they have lots of people participating in the program.

I also realized the replacement warrenty was pro-rated and I didn't like the tires enough to keep them for 100,000 miles, let alone the thought of getting a similar replacement set.

I definitely agree with you about the cost of rotation, but the program does allow you to change brands and sizes as long as you pick from the list of tires they offer. I will be moving up to a 265/70 17 when I get new ones.

The way I interpret what the pamphlet says and what you are anticipating, you will have to have less than 3/32" of tread left with 50,000 miles on the tires for the warranty to apply in a month. Then it's my understanding that they will pro-rate what they contribute based on a life expectancy of 100,000 miles. I think that means you'll get approximately 1/2 off of a set of tires at their prices, assuming you really have less than 3/32" of tread left at 50,000 miles. Is that how you think it works or am I missing something?

This has nothing to do with your post, but after the fun we had trying to get the vehicles out of the mud this past weekend, I'm really wondering why I have 3-4x4's and not one of them currently has Mud tires.

The way I understand it to work, and I asked both dealers to explain it to me so I was sure it was something I wanted to do, is I get mine rotated by them every 5k miles and have that vehicle printout sheet showing I rotated them and what the mileage was and it shows what the tread depth reading is. I do this every 5k miles until I get to 3/32" left on the tires. At that point I pick the tires I want off the list of "approved" tires. And I asked about upsizing, they said it was fine as long as they were off the list. The list has quite a few tires on it. Of course there are no Revo's or BFG ta ko's or any other nice off road tire, but there are some all terrains and lots of street tires. I was leaning toward the BFG Rugged Trail or the BFG Long Trails. Anyway, you pick your tires, and the program covers up to $200 per tire. That includes mounting and balance BUT it does not include sales tax. So I think the dealership charges like $175/ tire mounted and balanced for the Rugged Trail (or something close to that, I just remember it was under $200). Then I have to pay for it all and take all those receipts Ive been saving up with proof of everything, send it in with ONE of the worn out tires off my rig (the dealership handles this sending back the tire). Toyota checks the tire to make sure it is indeed 3/32" and it cuts me a check up to $200/tire, which if those tires were $175 then thats all they pay, and sends it to me. So I'm out $18 per rotation for 10 rotations (as of a month ago) and the sales tax on a $700 tire purchase, which here will be a little over $50.

I was never told anything about prorated payments or any of that. Both dealers said they have had lots of people using the program and getting their money back from toyota just like I described. I see it as a one time deal b/c the stock dunlops have lasted 52k miles so far and when I had them checked today, just so I would know what tread depth I was at, I had 5/32" left. After I get this one set out of the program I probably wont continue to do the rotations at the dealership, unless the program will in some way prorate for the next set like you said.

I know dealerships will lie to you, but surely not 2 different dealers in 2 different cities would tell me the same story. Now you got me worrying

Thats funny about the car wash... when I was in HS I took my muddy truck to the car wash to clean off after a little muddin and the owner came out and told me to leave I felt kinda bad, but I sure did leave him a mess to clean up.

FYI... This program REALLY works. I was told it was only in the Gulf States region. I ran my tires down to 3/32" and had one sent in after I got new upsized 265/70-17 tires installed. Mailed in all my saved receipts and within 20 days the check was cut (you can track the progress online) and I had a check for new tires. With sales tax I paid $805 or so and the check was cut for $740. So for basically $65 I got new upsized tires.

I've got the same program (I think), but have never had to pay for the rotation. We had to pay I think around $120 right off the bat, but nothing after that. The michelins lasted us for 90K, and they didn't have any problem replacing them for free. We didn't pay a penny, so well worth it for me. :beer:

Your 4Runner came with Michelins? I got 53k out of the stock Dunlops and toward the end of their treadlife it got pretty scary driving in heavy rain storms on the interstate. 3/32" is pretty bald if you ask me.

Dang, Toyota has a tire replacement program for a small fee.

I hate to sound like the Bush administration and Toyota corp. but that's a good "Moving Forward" idea to me.

Yep. I wonder if they put them on after I agreed to the program though. With their tread life, most people are going to default from the program before the tires wear out. We travel a lot, and knew that we'd wear them out, so kept getting them rotated. Of course, our contract showed every 7500 miles. This is also the same number of miles for an oil change per the manual. Hmmmmmmmm. There was some creative thinking on that one. : I of course change my oil at home. :bigok:

I got mine at Covington Pike toyota in Memphis, but it's now at Wolfchase.
