Extended Warrant Advice

I finally got my first 4Runner today! The last 2006 SR5 Sport 4x4 in my area. I am going to pick it up early next week and I was wondering what opinions people have on the extended warranties. I am in Canada and to just extend the warranty one year with Toyota is $1,000. Is it worth it?

Why not wait until the factory warranty is almost up and then buy an extended warranty.

I was told it costs more if you wait until the second or third year. Is this mot true?

Lots of members have purchased extended warranties from him.

I like to think an extended warranty like a condom. I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it

This truck is full of electronics that if they fail will cost a pretty penny to fix. Also the sunroof can be pretty flaky and in my experience that can cost a lot too.

I shopped heavily, both locally and out of state for a Toyota Platinum 7 yr/ 100k mile $0 deductible. My truck is almost 2 years old but I have racked up 30k miles already. If you are under the 3 year 36k mile limit the extended warranty costs the same as if you bought it when your Toyota was new.

I had some dealers quote me the full retail of $2200 and insist that was as low as they go. Cabe Toyota in Long Beach gave it to me for $1130, the same as most out of state dealers. This included a AAA club discount and a $50 "coupon".
