Extended warranty - on a used car purchase

I know this question has probably been answered many times before, but I havent been able to pull it up in my forum search.

If I'm purchasing a 4Runner from an individual seller and the car has ~32K miles on it and is a 2007 model.

Would I be able to contact a Toyota Dealership and purchase the extended warranty?

Would the warranty application period expire on Jan 1st 2010? or would it be dependant on the first date that the car was in service.. ie when it was purchased?

Can I as a buyer from the original owner, purchase an extended warranty if the car is within the 3yrs 36K mile limit?

Yes you can get an extended warranty after purchasing from a private party.

Start date is the first day when the car is first purchased by the original owner.

yes you can, i bought an extended warranty and paid $1500 for it from Toyota. Don't be afraid to haggle with them. i think it was 3 years and up to 100K. ha...i can't remember, probably should go look at it.

If I ever felt I needed an extended warranty for a car, I'd be looking at a different manufacturer. One of the major reasons I buy Toyotas (bought 6 totaling nearly 1,000,000 miles with 2 still in possession; 1 of those new) is so I DON'T need to worry about extended warranties

These are two rare cases that happened to us on our Honda Accord....

1) The battery cables corroded twice. Both times they changed out the entire wire looms. Turns out the battery was leaking gases that corroded the wires.

2) Pulled into the gas station to fill up the Accord. Went to pull the lever to open up the little door to the gas tank, wouldn't open. Turns out the cable pulling the lever had snapped. :wtf:

Now, I know the above happened to an Accord but that kind of stuff can happen to any car. Glad we had an extended warranty at the time.

Thanks LowPro for that link and guys for that info on getting a warranty on a used Toyota 4Runner.
While I agree with the fact that Toyota's have great reputation, however, I dont want to rely on just the Toyota credibility when buying a used car.
Secondly, if I do sell it in the future, the warranty might add some kind of incentive for the buyer (who knows).

Talked with JErry as per the info from LowPro and he quoted me

885 for the 7 yr 100K warranty
