External music

I've tried to play music with a usb drive, either plugged directly in or using an extension cord, it is not recognized. What's the trick? I also have issues with CD's I've burned. I've tried MP3 & MP4's. It only plays purchased CD's.

Are you selecting the usb device as the source? I ask because I use an I-pod and have a Samsung phone, both connected via Bluetooth and sometimes it recognizes the phone only as the source for phone and music, and then I have to select the I-pod for the music source.

Yes. I've tried without phone connected, it was actually in house, still nothing.

check out this thread:

you will need a utility to format a USB drive larger than 32gb to fat 16/32.

I followed this thread a long time ago and it worked perfectly for me

Yes, I've seen this. My flash drive is not that big, maybe 8G. I thought maybe it was a Mac issue.

Reformat the drive as fat32 and try again. Also random brand like centon may not be recognized at all.
