Can someone verify or deny that my 04 V6 runner with factory towing package has an external cooler?
One dealership says yes, other say no.

Thanks!

If it has a factory tow package there is a good likely hood that it does have a tranny cooler. Just get under the front end and look.

Where would it be? or close to? Anyone have pictures?

Thanks for the help, this is my 3rd runner but 1st with auto.

If I am not mistaken, only the V8 models have the tranmission cooler (and oil cooler). I believe the V6 models only have an oil cooler.

Yeah only the V8 model has the Tranny cooler installed, V6 doesn't come with one from the factory. I'm not aware of a factory installed oil cooler for the V8 or V6.

Thanks I am going to add one then, any body know the part number for the V8 cooler? What about going aftermarket?

The V6 Tacoma can be had with a factory installed trans oil cooler, so I don't know why the 4Runner doesn't have one - at least as an option.

From what I've read, even the 3.3L V6 in the Highlander adds a cooler with the tow package.

I asked my dealer about this, but as usual, they were clueless.

I would like to add a trans cooler, but I am worried about affecting my warranty.

I towed a 4,000# trailer for five years with my '98 'Runner. My towing included mountainous terrain and hot weather. I didn't add an external transmission cooler. The only non-standard thing I did was to have the tranny flushed at about 30K miles and the ATF replaced with Mobil 1 synthetic.

The tranny overtemp light never came on. There were never any signs that the tranny was too hot. When I sold the truck at 75K miles, the tranny still worked like new.

I'd just drive and not worry about it.

This is true...my fiance's V6 Highlander with tow package has a tranny cooler.

And i do believe that all 4runners have oil cooler.

Then why can't we get one (factory installed) with the V6 4Runner? It doesn't make much sense to me.

Woohooo, my fiance's girly Highlander is more manly than your 4runner...my fiance's girly Highlander is more manly than your 4runner...my fiance's girly Highlander is more manly than your 4runner...my fiance's girly Highlander is more manly than your 4runner...my fiance's girly Highlander is more manly than your 4runner....:D

Sorry, i had to do it....

All 4th gen 4Runners have an oil cooler that uses coolant circulating through the base of the oil filter mount. They also have a trans cooler in the radiator. Only the V8s have an additional external trans cooler inline with the radiator heat exchanger.

The radiator trans cooler and the motor oil cooler are very efficient at cooling and helping get the oil UP to operating temp faster.
