Extra cupholders

One thing I don't like about my 4th gen is that there are only 2 cup holders in the front and that stupid CD drawer is useless.
Has anyone found a way to add cup holders? And I don't mean those cheap things that hang onto the door or the ones that are in the door pocket. Those don't hold squat and are awkward to get to.
I have my son's car seat in the middle 2nd row so it blocks those.
My old 06 Tacoma had 2 just behind the center console. I tried searching but came up with nada.
Any mods to that drawer to make it a functional pocket?

How many drinks do you drink at one time??? For me...it's usually just 1. And my passenger it's 1 also...That makes a need for just 2 cup holders.

Isn't there 6 in the front? I thought there were two in each front door pocket/panel, plus the two in the console. On road trips I keep the unopened bottles of water or cans of soda in the door cup holders until needed.

^^^this ha ha

To the OP there is one in each front door panel for bottles.

I sometimes use the 2 in the backseat in the armrest, they pop up and you have 2 more within reach. Plus there's the 2 bottle holding pockets on the doors

I think you guys are missing the an important clue...

He mention 'car seat' in his post...which means as a parent, there are never enough cup holders. As a future dad myself (due in April!), I can kinda see his issue.

The two in the center fold down in the rear can't be used because of the location of the car seat...which is the best place for the car seat.

So, you might try one of those molded plastic 'console' you can find at walmart/kmart or the big auto part stores. They are suppose to fit over the center hump on the floorboard. Not sure how secure they are...but maybe you can use some velcro or something...

Or maybe something like this...made for Jeep but maybe it can be 'jerry rigged' in...Vertically Driven Products Jeep Trash Can & Cup Holder - JCWhitney

That or get a minivan...AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!

My 05 Taco has like 10 or so (4 in console, 2 each door-fronts, at least 1/door for rears), for an access cab even. There was a thread on Tacomaworld once joking about how many it had. Seems to be lop sided that an access cab would have more than the 4Runner, those two at the back of the taco console are handy, wishing my 4Runner had them also.

Not that I added much value to this post as I have no genius ideas how to help out, but had to reaffirm the OP that it's odd.

I've always loved that my 4runner front cup holders can house a 32oz gatorade. Not too many cars can do that!

To the OP; maybe your next mod should be one of these:

Are you able to reach to the rear driver's side door from the front seat? When I take longer trips, I usually have an array of coffee, water, & gatorade. I typically keep the bottles in the doors (front and rear) and keep open topped containers in the front.

My old Corolla had 2 small cupholders for 5 passengers so I learnt to be resourceful, like jamming my coffee mug in the handbrake or sticking water bottles between the seats and center console. Having gone thru that, I consider myself spoiled with the amount my 4runner has. How many drinks do you have on the go at once?? Or do you want the extra cupholders to put change in??

You guys are totally missing the point and posting aimlessly.
As I wrote in the OP there is a car seat blocking the one in the back seats. The ones in the door will not hold anything but a bottle.
The whole point of this is I'm taking a trip in a few weeks with the family. Every seat will be full including the 3rd row and I'm sure we'll be eating/drinking on the way.
The way the Tacoma has it the back seat passengers can use the one thats molded into the console and there are still 3 up front.

No input on the CD holder. That is the most usless thing I've ever seen. Maybe I can do something with the little table thing in the armrest or where the trash bag holder is.

Thanks Jwyshrek. You get it. That looks like it could be a good solution.

the two in the console are reserved for my junk, not drinks, cups get their own aftermarket holders

two for a dollar at WalMart, glove box door mount:

Cranky...

Try these..Car Cup Holders

Not cranky, just frustrated at people who can't read. I specifically said no cheap platic hang on the door things and that the door pockets were sufficient and look what was posted.
Although some of you did read and posted usefully things. For that I thank you.

It does seem odd to me though that the Tacoma has 10 while the 4runner only has 4 useful ones. I bet the family guys know what I'm saying. Have you evet picked up food for your family on the way home? 3-4 drinks, only 2 cupholders.

when they give you 3-4 drinks don't they provide one of those paper cupholders?

I totally see where you're coming from. My 3 year old boy has his car seat in the middle as well, so I'm stuck with the 2 up front like yourself.

It would be nice to find a solution for adding 2 more somewhere. My dad has a taco and has more cup holders than he knows what to do with. With that said, he's usually the only one driving the truck...

It doesn't make much sense as to why the 4runners have the 2 up front as opposed to the plethora of cup holders in the tacos.

I'm thinking where the front part of the armrest folds forward, there might be enough room to mold a retractable one like the one that's in the back. It wouldn't be very deep though or easily accessible from the back seats though.
