Extra Traction In Snow?

I've seen them use similar things in the Dakar race but I think they were aluminum - probably to save weight. I could see these being handy if you were headed out in a very remote area.
 
i have used things like this to get the tractors out of horse manure, they work really well to get traction in the big heavy tractors! but i think snow might not be dense enough. but on the other hand would work great!
 
I've also seen other, cheaper alternatives.
Common thing is to carry a couple of strips of carpet to throw under the wheel(s), upside down so it grabs the snow and doesn't spin out from under. Another item, similar to what is advertised above, is a piece of used snow machine belt.

Chains are good but a pain just for that momentary time to get out of a rut.

I used to carry some stuff in my Jeep, I think its called concrete lathe. A really thick, jagged wire mesh, and folds up nice. I got my XJ out of snow a few times with it.

haven't gotten stuck with the Toyota yet!

I've been stuck a lot but not in the 4R and that's just because I've learned my lesson. It had always been due to being high centered so no amount of traction would have helped. I needed a winch.
