f*cking tranny issues

sup dudes. i'll let my rig warm up for 10 minutes before I take off. I put her in reverse to back out of my driveway - and it acts like brakes are on. I have to rev her up to 2500 or so to get her to move.

I'll force her out of the driveway, drive around the block, and it seems fine after that.

This is a very new symptom. I had the transmission drain & filled by Toy Automotive in Littleton.

It still does it though. Brakes frozen? Highly doubtful. I dunno - when I shift into reverse...I can HEAR some shit going on underneath. It doesn't sound good.

I found my rattle.. skid plates.

If you use your ebrake they are known to freeze up in the winter and not releasing...I usually just leave in gear or park in a flat area if there's a chance it'll be really cold out.

So you're saying I can pull the Ebrake up, release it when I back out of my steep driveway, and drive around on a *frozen* ebrake??

Absolutely. If that were to happen, you would likely smell the scent of "burning brakes".

Just to rule it out- could you jack the front end up sometime before you take off? Verify both tires/wheels/rotors spin freely? At least it would rule stuck calipers out.

It acted like this before and after leaving there.

Ok. So even though the cable mechanism isn't frozen, you're basically saying the SHOE (or shoes) becomes frozen to the rear brake drum.

Is there a nice jolt and bang before you get moving normally? I'm betting on the ebrake seizing. Mine has been locking up rock solid lately, leading to some lovely early morning brake stands to show the neighbors how much power this baby has before the ebrake unseizes.

Nope. it's all butter. you dont feel anything when shifting to R or D. My shit is very heavy, and doesnt want to move any direction on flat ground without brake pedal engaged.

Pretty much. Also try standing on the brake pedal, all the way down. When I do that I hear that bang of the ebrake disengaging. When I reverse in the cold it's fine, but as soon as I come to a complete stop to shift into drive, that ***** locks up solid.

One morning I held up traffic so bad while fighting with it to unseize that I threw it in 4LO and locked the rear diff to crawl away. I really need to service that entire rear brake system.

Back East the bell cranks Rust. Out West where Rust isnt much of a problem, this hasn't been the case. My problem turned out to be axle seals. Intially, I crawled under to check the bell cranks and didn't see any other obvious issues. Only after a weeks' trip did the issue become obvious!

Pretty much what [MENTION=143299]frodiesel[/MENTION] said clear and to the point. And is your issue at hand and is the same issue [MENTION=71030]T4R2014[/MENTION] is having and didn't even know it just thinks it's his ebrake locking up....your reheating up the fluid breaking yourself free.
