F/R Diff, T.Case/ Trans Fluid Supplies

Hello all,

Tis the season for some fluid changing. I have not done this yet on my 1999 limited, and am at about 202k miles. I am the second owner, and have no clue when this was done last.

In saying so, I am going to be doing this myself at a buddies garage.

I am hoping someone can chime in with the exact fluids that I will need for these components, I am simply not positive on what I need and would rather avoid buying the wrong juice!

Waste of money to replace the bolts unless they were stripped by the previous owner. Just get new washers.

As for the amount of gear oil for the transfer case, consult the video I posted on this thread. All the information you need is in that video.

I did it the other day on my '98 and I ended up buying 5 quarts total of 75w-90 synthetic gear oil, any kind is good I've read the diffs aren't too picky about which brand fluids (I used an O'rilleys brand). But I put in like 2.6 quarts in the rear diff, and 1.2 quarts in the front diff and t-case. Just be sure to clean the drain plug because it's magnetized and make sure you loosen the fill plugs before the drain ones.

Yes. I used Mobil 1 75W-90 for both diffs and transfer case. Some say to use 80W-90 in the rear diff. For simplicity's sake, I bought all the same fluid and I don't think it really matters after researching. Put 10k on since I did it and haven't had any issues.

Front Differential
1.2 Qt (36 oz)

Transfer Case
1.1 Qt (33 oz)

Rear Differential
2.6 Qt (78 oz)

I use Supertech 75-90 and 75-140 and change it often. It's easy on the 4Runner where everything has a drain plug and cheep.
