Factory alarm and horn issue

After 10+ years of wheeling my 3rd gen, I broke down and bought a 05 V8 limited this past weekend.

First thing that I found that bugged the hell out of me is that when you lock or unlock the doors (via key or keyfob) the piezo speaker makes the beep but the horn also sounds. So my temp fix was to just un-hook the horn till I figured it out.

I have searched around but cant find a way to disable this feature. From what I read, there are a few different styles of alarms. I have a small red spring loaded light/button to the left of the steering wheel if that helps.

That sounds like a port or dealer installed alarm. Remove the lower dash panel and look for a green wire with a red stripe (with an additional wire tapped into it) in the wire bundle coming from the steering column. Remove the wire that's tapped into the green/red wire and that should get rid of the horn honk.

[MENTION=32290]gm350reratliff[/MENTION] is correct that it is a port installed alarm. Most likely Gulf States.
There is fuse to disable the alarm. Remove the panel under the steering wheel. Look on the right side for an inline fuse. Usually they are wrapped in a day-glow paper, mine was a light green. The paper was held on with a tie wrap on one and a rubber band on the others.
Here is the green square paper. Tear it open and there is the fuse, pull the fuse to completely disable.
You might also find the shock sensor adjustment under there too.

i have an alarm question to add to this thread... with my alarm set by the fob, if i unlock my door with the key, the alarm will go off. is there a way to change this setting?

To the OP, sounds like you have the same thing my used '07 came with, the Karr Alarm. Here's a link for the User Manual. Go to Page 5 and do the "eliminating arm / disarm chirps" and it will stop the alarm system from doing the additional horn beeps. You'll still have the Toyota piezo chirp.
