Factory Alarm Question?

I have a 2003 toyota 4runner V8. It came with a factory/dealer installed alarm with a red (about 1/4" in diameter) button that is on the lower left dash (about 7:00 from the steering wheel). I've looked in my owners manual but couldn't find anything about it.

Here are my questions/problems:

1.) Anybody have any info on this alarm? I never mess with this button.

2.) Last night I was sitting in the living room and heard 4 or 5 really quick horn honks come from the truck. Looked outside and all was quiet. Looked at the remote and it wasnt depressed or anything. This is the third time it has happened. Anyone know whats going on or ever had this same problem?
Im thinking it may have something to do with this red button/alarm.

Was the wind blowing when this happened? Mine started doing that just before the shock sensor went out on it. It only did it maybe for 5 or 6 times (that I heard) for about 2 weeks and then one day, I could not set the alarm. I could not even lock the doors manually or the alarm would go off. I had to leave it unlocked or else. The next day I went and had an aftermarket system installed.
 
Thanks! That gets me something to go on. It was not outside it was in the garage.

Anyone know where this shock sensor is and is it easy to replace?
 
Okay, so it doesnt look like anyone else has had this problem.

The horn "chirping" seems to have been caused from a almost dead battery.

Battery was dead when I went to crank her... Went and had it checked and it was time to replace. Since I had the battery replaced no more horn chirping.

Hope this helps if anyone has the same problem. Ill update if the horn chirps again. But for now it looks like the battery was the culprit,
 
Okayso the battery was not the cuprit!!!!

If anyone else has had the horn chirp a few times repeatedly quickly please let me know. Ive been pushing the mysterious red button to the left to see if that helps resolve the problem.

Any info on this "dealer" installed alarm, Im guessing in addition to the factory alarm would be great too.

If it has a button then no it is not an RS3200 Alarm.

The RS3200 plugs into your harness via inline OEM connectors into the harness and uses only two wires that need to be spliced into the harness, of which they provide splice clips.

The RS3200 does not have an external button other than on the actual module itself which will be behind the glovebox.
 
I have what sounds to be the same alarm on a camry we just bought. It's the RS3200+ from what I've read. I hate that it honks and beeps when you lock it. I just don't want the honking, but you can't change that!

The red LED I have is a button as well as an LED. As far as I can tell pushing it does nothing. The alarm does arm with the stock remote and everything.

IF the alarm trips it'll honk a few times fast when you unlock the car. If you tap the glass with the key it should honk as a warning. On mine, if you lock it 2 times (to shut off the headlights) it sets off the alarm. why would I want that?

Anyone know where they typically mount these?

On the 4Runner it should be mounted behind the glovebox. Remove the glovebox as you would to change the cabin air filter. Up along the metal support bar should be the module.

Also for the 4Runner application, the button/LED is not used as the security light doubles as the alarm LED.
 
So after talking with a good friend who use to do car alarm installs, he thought it might be the shock sensor going out. It was pointed out by someone else here on the forum that could be the culprit as well.

So today I started at the red led and traced the wire directly to the shock sensor. It was located right by the steering column. I unhooked the shock sensor and pulled it out.

If this doesnt stop the mysterious horn chirping in the middle of the night. I am going to pull the "main security box", which I located while pulling out the shock sensor.

I would like to note that after I pulled the shock sensor I locked and unlocked the truck a few times to make sure everything was kosher. So far so good.

Attached are a few pics if anyone else ever has the same problem. Tommorow I am going to get back under the dash and take a pic of the main control box. I may go ahead and take it out so I dont have to worry about it anymore. Hopefully, the problem is resolved.

Im still not sure what brand is this dealer installed after market alarm any input would be appreciated!

was the shock sensor causing the 4-5 honks?

fjmatt, I'm having the same problem on my 2002 - interested if you found a solution.

I had that alarm on my first 4th gen that got totaled. I believe it's an alarm that was port-installed by Southeast Toyota Distributors. That's off the top of my head so I may be wrong. I've got an owners pamphlet for it at home still. I'll try to find it tonight and see if it's got any useful info for you guys.
