Factory Aluminum Rims. Clear coated?

I have factory aluminum rims on mt 97. I was going to clean them with metal polish, but I wondered if they might be clear coated?

I don't want to mess them up. Does anyone know?

As far as I know the OEM wheels are clear coated. What are you trying to clean off the wheels? Brake dust or dirt?

The standard 5 spokes on my 99 ltd are.
I got some brake cleaner on them and ate through the clear. A year later and they still look fine though.

I'd stick to soap and water.

There are some spots that the clear coating is gone and they are scratched and pitted. Not much to do I guess.

sure there is......sand, paint, and clearcoat. There is a good factory match found on this link:

Look at the 2nd post. And use a deck of cards around the wheel to keep overspray off your tire.
