factory radio swap question...

Got a question. I have someone that is offering to sell me their CD/Radio from their '99 4runner.

This is it.

Do any of you know if this would work in a 2001 SR5 runner? Plug looks the same to me. But anyone have any experience with this??

And do these have the security system that diables the radio if it's removed from the vehicle? I know you have to have some kind of a 3 digit code to get it to work if it does. Anyone know??????

It will fit, but I can't say whether or not it will be plug-n-play. I've never seen that style HU before...


Is this not the HU you're after (shot of mine). I'd hold out for it if it was me.

Yeah that's the one I'm looking for. The other guy is selling it to me for $10 so i can just put it in for the time being and keep looking for another one and sell this one for more than $10 more than likely. haha

The only thing I'm wondering about is if it has the security system built in to where it will be dissabled when it's removed. Know any way to get around that if it does??

im pretty sure the amp connection is different and it wont work, but no hurt in trying for that much!!

Dunno about that. I've swapped out faulty oem HUs for working donor HUs at least half a dozen times on 3rd gens throughout the last few years. I've never had to worry about entering any codes to make the donor HU fire up.
