Factory Roof Rack?

I found this on eBay. I know I'll still need the outer skid strips so I can attach the rack to my roof but does anyone know if I'll need any additional hardware to attach the rack? Is what is included in the eBay listing all I'm going to need once I get the outer skid strips?

your missing the rails? i have all 5 cross bar. where you located at? i am willing to sell it for $40 plus shipping to your location. only thing i cant find are the knobs to screw them in, but a few number 10 bolts will work.

So you're just missing the thumb wheels? And what's a number 10 bolt?

Is that what your rack is missing, JustAnotherT4R, the thumbwheels? If so, I'd be interested in buying it from you if that's the only extra hardware I'll need to pick up.

Haha well if I can't get my hands on any outer skid strips maybe I can hire some of you guys on retainer to go scrounge around your junkyards for me because there's slim pickins around here. I just ordered a factory rack from eBay but I'm shit outta luck until I get a hold of the skid strips to actually attach the damn thing haha.

Well I ended up ordering the factory rack from eBay and I just picked up the "outer skid strips" from the Toyota dealership. When I went out to install the skid strips that's where I ran into a problem. What tool do you use to remove the screws that are holding down the strips? My standard phillips head wouldn't fit. Here's a crappy picture of what they look like, but I imagine they're the same as everyone else's who has the factory rack:

Can anyone who's removed their rack tell me what kind of tool I need to use to remove those?

You need a Torx head bit. At least I think it's called Torx. If you can't find the right size, try using a regular screwdriver (not Phillips) that will fit into 2 opposite notches in the screw, push down hard and turn it slowly. You should be able to get it out if you're careful. If it stars slipping, I suggest you stop because if you strip that little screw head, your screwed

No pun intended:clap:

Yeah as soon as I realized the phillips wasn't doing the job I stopped because if I had tried any more I would have started stripping it. I'll go to Lowes tomorrow and pick up a Torx screwdriver. Thanks for the info! And from what I'm reading on Google, the screw is a Torx-8 screw, and I guess they make different sized bits for the different sized Torx screws so I'll have to make sure I get the right size.

Ok so the skid strips and roof rack came in the mail today. I got the strips and the 3 cross beams attached no problem. But how do you attach the remaining two pieces, the ones with the thumbwheels? I cant figure it out for the life of me :bash:

Those slide on from the ends of the outer skids. You will have to loosen up the skid strips to pop off the end caps (be careful pulling the end caps off - I would just pull out all the bolts holding the rack to the roof).

If I remember correctly, on the opposite side of the thumbwheels you should have a square nut. Make sure that is towards the end of the thumbwheel bolt and slide the nut into the end of the track. When you've got the 2 crossbars where you want them, spin the thumbwheels and that pulls the square nuts tight in the track.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense.

Thanks homie :biggrin2: I'm really glad I got it all squared away. I love how it looks. I really think it pulls my rig together. Now next on the agenda is those clear corners/bumpers and maybe a lift and some new tires :D :D

Would anyone have suggestions on buying a roof rack since im not close to any junkyards, i too only have the black rails
