Factory Roof Rails 2004 Runner

Purchased my 04 last year with no roof racks of any kind. I'm having a difficult time finding someone who has a set. I'm interested in getting a nice add on but everything attached to the factory rails so I have to purchase them first.

Any idea where I can pick up a set or if there is a nice rack that I can install that doesn't require me attaching to existing rails?

I'm not quite sure I understand exactly what you are looking for? If your '04 didn't have any factory roof rack at all, then you will need the entire setup, if you want the oem system. The two side rails ( that attach to the roof itself on the driver and passenger side) fasten to the roof in pre-drilled mounting points on the roof. And the cross members are attached to each of the side rails, and are adjustable for placement. You should be able to find the attachment points under the black plastic strips that run along either side of the roof, one in the front and one in the back on each side for mounting the side rails. You might want to take a close look at another 4Runner with the roof rack to better understand how it attaches.

I understand how the factory rails attach. My questions are

1. where can I get the complete factory OEM set or

2. where can I get a rack that will work that doesn't require the factory OEM rack. Most latch to the factory rails/cross bars. Is there a nice setup that I can install that doesn't require me to purchase the factory roof rack and install it first.

I purchased an OEM sport rack on Ebay for my '07 4runner. It was $200. It looked like the guy had a bunch of new OEM racks for the runner. My runner didn't come with a rack.

did your roof rack from ebay came complete with installation hardware? Also, are these the same roof rack as the sport edition 4runners? Not sure what the difference between the urban and sport edition racks.

I actually just got around to installing the rack today. The mounting hardware was not in the package. I thought the bolts in the roof would work, but they are too short. I contacted the seller to see what he will do. He has a high rating, so I am guessing he will take care of me. Stay tuned...

The seller sent me all new mounting hardware after I contacted him, so yes the hardware does come with the rails. I just got a flyer from my local Toyota dealer in Phoenix and they are selling the same rails for about the same price. I probably would have done that if they offered it before my ebay purchase.

Now I just need attachments for my kayak.
