Factory Spring Marking Orientation After Bilstein 5100 Install

Do the markings on the factory spring need to always face forward?

2nd Question:
Are these markings always on the second rung?

3rd Question:
Do the last rungs of the coil always need to face outward?

The end of the springs, front and rear, must fit in the pocket of the spring seat. Markings mean nothing.

If the markings came from the factory on the second front-facing rung, does it go back that way after a Bilstein shock swap? With them facing backwards, the end of the coil is in the front now.

Yes, the paint codes need to face forward. I had a dealer do it wrong and when I mentioned it, they corrected the spring orientation. Paint codes should point forward.

maybe switch front shocks from left to right. Spring should seat properly and paint codes should be facing front. 3rd gens had specific left and right springs. Both my 5th gen fronts appear to be Yellow/Pink. Maybe its Yellow/Purple IDK

The factory repair manual (TOYOTA 2016-2019 4Runner Repair Manual RM27F0U) makes no mention of paint codes. See page 5140 for the front springs and page 5177 for the rear springs.

As I said before, the end of the springs must be seated correctly in the notch of the top and bottom plates. The paint codes are meaningless.

Mine seem to fit the same conditions: Paint codes forward, on the second coil.
