Just purchased a 06 4Runner, my first Toyota. I really like the vehicle, but I miss the XM radio service that I had in my other truck. It was a factory installed option in my GMC pickup. I looked in the owners manual for the 4Runner, and it looks like my radio is XM "ready". Has anyone purhased the factory XM tuner and installed it, or had the dealer do the install? I called the local Toyota dealer, and they tell me $450 installed. I have installed lots of car stereo equipment, etc. in the past, but I am wondering how painful this install would be. The panels and interior plastic on my GMC were easily removed, I have looked around the Toyota interior and this thing is tight as a bank vault. I have searched the forum with not luck - all I can find are installs of the portable sat radio units. Other than the price, I can't understand why people would not opt for the tuner, and use all of the factory controls. Must be a price thing? I can't find any threads on the subject either.
