Failed Battery at 24K

I took the Beast in for it's pre trip oil change. The tech tested the battery and it failed. They replaced it with a new one no charge. Surprised me that it failed so soon and I have not been having any cranking issue. Grateful they spotted it.

When I got to the market the rear window would not go down with remote or with key. Got in, started the engine and lowered the rear window using the dash control. After that key and remote work for lowering. Funny stuff. Got the skid plate installed (looks a little cheesy but will prevent damage on the Alcan).....everything else checked out.

Once in a blue moon it a bad battery happens, glad they caught it for you. Sometimes goofy stuff occurs when volts are a bit low, maybe that's what happened to the back window.

Leaving in the next day or two, right?

well that is simply rude that a battery and a blue moon conspired. I wonder if the computer had to "reset" after the new battery was installed. everything else works well.

Working a few more days and then packing up. North on the 29th to Medord 30th Bellingham 31st on the Ferry.

As I understand it the engine computer may or may not have reset depending how long it took to swap the battery. I think it has to be without power for some window of time, 3 or 5 minutes or something.

The windows and sunroof have to be re-initialized with only a brief interruption of power.

Some techs will put a small battery (I use a 9V with a couple of test leads) on the car while swapping the battery so as to preserve radio stations, power window programming etc...

On a big scary ship and under way for Halloween, scary! It has all the makings of a murder mystery (or :girl: filled super sexy costume party):lmao: Have fun!

You re-initialized the window, as required after a power interuption, without even knowing it.

Looking forward to your trip report. Remember to get a closeup pic of the grizzly; none of this long lense from a distance stuff. Enjoy.

I know I've missed a few of your posts, but what are you going up to Alaska for? Work? Is it a one-way trip or are you going back to CA at some point?
 
Affordable (no state income tax, no state sales tax, homes in the $220K range for 3/2 new construction. Offered a daily position in Anchorage with potential to transport patients on a Lear to points south.

Drive to Bellingham. Ferry the 4Runner and moi to Haines on the inside passage. Overland to Anchorage hopefully caravan with some fly boys and girls headed for Elmendorf.

And yes, no wide shots of the grizzlies. Up close and personable like.

that is a pretty good catch by the tech... usually they load test followed by using a hydrometer on the individual cells of the bat.. if one is below a certain level on the hydrometer, then it fails, there isn't enough sulfur remaining to carry a charge.

Yah I told the service manager that his tech was doing a good job and sent in a card with that on it. saved me a real problem in the Yukon. Nice when some one is doing their job well.

Shouldn't that be "Say Fish." It will put a nice big grin on the bears face just before he mauls you.

Is "a B on wheels" what I think it is?
