Fake limited?

My friend just got his 4Runner last night. Its a beautiful white 2006 "limited" however it does NOT have the rear spoiler and it has the full JBL synthesis sound system including the jbl synthesis head unit. However it does have dual power seats, sunroof, heated seats, and the limited wheels.

Could this be a SR5 badged with a limited tag and with limited wheels?

Things to check:
Check the spare tire wheel and see if it is also a Limited wheel.
Run a Carfax on the VIN (It will either SR5/Sport or Limited I believe).
Check the instrument cluster. If it's identical to yours it is a Limited. This would probably be the hardest component to swap out. The SR5/Sport/Urban Runners have the more "plain" looking cluster.
Also check to see if it has Dual Climate Control and Memory seats...

I think the spoiler was a dealer add on option. Most came with it but some did not. Does it have leather?

I'm curious about this as well. I have a white SR5 that I've modified to look like the limited. I by no means call it or tag is as a limited though.

The SR5/Sport have "regular" instrument gauges. The Limited have the "optitron" gauges.......... this is a mod that I have YET to see.

Can someone post photos of a Limited instrument cluster?

I am curious to see if our Limited has it. In South America trims have a lot of variations from what you get in the USA.

Check the VIN, the 7th digit is a '7' for Limited, '4' for a SR5 or Sport Edition.

Thank you, my Limited has the "limited" version cluster, I will check on another SR5 and report back. I could be wrong, but I believe in South America we all got the same cluster.

Thanks alot ryanbt,now I want a Limited gauge cluster.I have an 08 Sport and never noticed the difference,and I have owned 04 and 06 Limiteds.I almost purchased an 07 Limited in Michigan last year,but it didn't have a sunroof.I thought that was standard equipment .

The needles are different on the Limited compared to the SR5/Sport. The Limited needles are red with a black surround and it projects a red dot at the end for the speedometer and tachometer. The SR5/Sport has regular translucent needles.

The Limited gauges around the edge where the hash markings are for the speedo and tach it's like a watch with a slight bevel around it. The backing of the SR5/Sport is completely flat.

The spindle where the needle is attached to on the Limited is bigger than the SR5/Sport.

I never knew the there were differences between models in terms of the clusters! Do all Limited's have memory seats? Mine do not.

No, my '05 doesn't have them. I believe they started with the '06 refresh.

Okay so after much examination of my friends nice 4runner. I am still left indecisive on whether to determine if it is a limited or SR5 converted. The biggest thing I am skeptical about is that he has the JBL Synthesis sound system. I have never seen that on a limited.

He has memory seats, dual power seats, dual AC climate control, steering functions, limited cluster gauge, homelink and the factory subwoofer.
