Fan speed lights out again!

I've seen this mentioned over and over again on this forum. The backlighting for the fan speed control goes out. I went to the dealer yesterday and purchase this $3.50 bulb. It's a quick and easy fix for sure, but here's my question-

Why does this bulb burn out when the others don't? All of the HVAC controls use the same exact bulb, but for whatever reason the only one that ever blows is the one for the fan speed. I've replaced mine twice now, and I've never had to replace any of the others. From reading other threads, it seems that everyone else is experiencing the same thing. Anyone have any theories/ideas on this?

Mine finally went after 6 years and 93k miles. Do yourself a favor and go to Radio shack and get bulbs from them. The model # is 272-1092. I bought them and they are slightly (aka-cant really even tell) brighter, and they are a lot cheaper.

Here is a link to the write up of how to do it:http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2504&page=2

Thanks for the part number. I was actually going to take my old bulb to Radio Shack to see if they can match it up. But now I have the correct part number!

BTW, it's really easy to pop the bad bulb out of the plastic holder. All that needs to be done is to straighten out the metal leads and pull the bulb straight out of the holder. Then push the new bulb into the holder and bend the leads into the slots on the holder. Then all you need to do is pop the little rubber cap back on to the top of the bulb.

Still though, I have no idea why the fan speed light blows out and the others don't. All three climate control knobs use the same exact bulb, but everyone's fan speed control is the one that always goes out.

Mine went after 5.5 years and 75k. My dad's 06 went every two years. I wish I knew why those bulb always blow out.
