Shouldn't there be anothrr post of opinions than thread jacking the op of how everyone likes or dislikes the 4th and 5th gens.

Dude you know me I can't even decide on a bumper for my rig. But seriously though, the girl needs a new SUV, and by new I mean new not an 85 4Runner. So the only logical choice is a 5th Gen Trail. And I don't know why everyone says they're so big people don't have problems taking a 2nd Gen Taco on the trails. Everyone drools over FJ80s(including me) and those are tanks. But I'm also not going to take my brand new 40k T4R on any hardcore trails. That's why I'm keeping the 3rd Gen! That and because it's the best looking 4Runner to me, and I'd only get rid of it for one of those tank FJ80s!

You forgot body on frame! It seems like they are still sticking to the roots of main ting something that is rugged, I've seen the 5th gens in action, if you get the right set up for them they are still pretty good of a wheeling vehicle. It's the same power train as the FJC and those things wheel pretty well.
Congrats on the new ride OP, you will get use to the size and once you get past how much you paid for it, you will find it wheels as good if not better than your 3rd gen, apart from it don't fit as we'll on the narrow stuff. Lol
I have owner every generation and up until a month or so ago I had a 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th sitting in the drive. I drove all of them at least once a week, and every one is far different from the other. You will end up loving the more refined inside and extra elbow room in your 5th, but you will end up missing the nimbleness of you 3rd.
I still drive my 3rd gen every day to and from work, and when I get home and we go to dinner or shopping we take the 5th, other than the size it's really a much better modern vehicle. I'm sure I will still miss my 3rd when I sell it, just like in sure you do.
