Folks:
For the last couple weeks the OBD1 equipped 22RE in my 87 has been acting funny. You know how when you first start the engine when cold it does a fast idle until either the ECU decides its warm enough and slows the idle down, or you get impatient and blip the throttle to bring the idle down, right?
Anyway, these days even after the engine is completely warmed up, when I stop at a light my engine would remain at about 1500. This was only occasional, but today it was every single time. One new twist: I was creeping along in traffic barely above idle. I stopped completely, and the engine increased revs until it was at 2000 rpm.
I checked the throttle cable and could not detect any binding.
Any likely culprits?
Also, if there is a thread that already addressed this issue, please hyperlink. I searched "high idle", "fast idle" and "rapid idle" in both Classic and Maintenance forums but no joy.
